Episode 18-9: Culture Trumps Strategy Every Time

Today, you can probably pick out the organizations with great cultures with great accuracy: Kansas City Chiefs – The LA Dodgers – Vegas Knights -Celtics Or Top Schools: Stanford, Penn State, University of California Storied football Franchises: Liverpool, Barcelona FC Real Madrid, Chelea They all have a Culture of Winning / Winning Cultures. Coming off of last weeks show with Kevin Tyler, President of Altis the conversation with our listeners surprised me. It was more about the environment and culture that Kevin and Altis has created and not so much the details that make up a performance program. The talk was about the big picture of when an athlete or coach step into an environment like this – only good things can happen, and I really thought this takeaway was interesting. There is no question, the idea of “culture” has been a focus in sport for a long, long time. On this week’s Episode of Krush Performance we go back into our 2022 Theme: Organizational and Team Performance with my conversation with Joan Ryan, acclaimed journalist and author of 5 books, including “Intangibles: Unlocking the Science and Soul of Team Chemistry.” Get set as we work to crack the code on organizational and team performance and the elusive concept of “Team Culture” is a perfect place to start. “Culture Trumps Strategy Every Time.” Harvard Business Review The Environment and Culture you create for your players is one of the most important things you can do when you are Creating Coachable Players. Episode 18-8: Attacking Performance: The Lifespan of the Athlete

Every athlete experiences doubt at some point. · Doubt about whether they are playing as well as they could be playing or · Whether they are progressing as fast as they feel they should be or · Whether they are going to be good enough to achieve their goals and objectives. The Good News – if you are or have experienced doubt you are not alone. Even Better News – you can make doubt work to your advantage if you fame it up correctly. Doubt is a natural part of the athlete and player development process and if you can learn to embrace it, it can be a very helpful tool. Doubt can be an indicator that it might be time to take a step back and evaluate where you are at, what you have been doing and how you have been planning in relation to your goals and objectives. In the process of athlete and player development we spend the majority of an athlete’s lifespan preparing for a few years of elite – top performance. Years and years building the foundation that will eventually support performance outcomes at the highest levels of performance. Unfortunately, most athletes, coaches, parents underestimate the demands at the highest levels of sport. And in turn, do not fully appreciate the importance of the building phases of development that must happen to support elite performance. This week on Krush Performance we discuss that process and the importance of coaching development as we breakdown the lifespan of an athlete and everything that goes into creating top performance with Kevin Tyler, President of Altis. There are no shortcuts in the process of Creating Coachable Players. Subscribe to the show on Apple Podcasts, TuneIn Radio, Google Podcast, the iHeartRadio app, and now on Spotify! The comes a big buyout and this allows you to step back into the world of sport this time however your teammates won’t be 20 or so other hockey players. Episode 18-5: The Essence of Getting Better

What Does it Take to be Great This week on Krush Performance we are going to take a good hard look at talent, the development of talent and ultimately what it really takes to get better at something. It’s a massive discussion with multiple layers and many areas of grey so lets review what we know about talent and talent development so you can informed decisions and move forward with purpose. Let me start with a question: Is Talent Overrated? Does talent come first? Does there need to be recognizable Talent – whatever that is – in order to have the chance to go on to success? Are we born with Talent? Or is Talent something that we develop? There are so many questions revolving around talent – and one of the most important just might be – what exactly is talent in the first place? This week we go to one of the very important early discussions that kick started the Krush our look into Talent and Talent Development with Krush Favorite: Geoff Colvin, Award-winning journalist for Fortune & CBS Radio, Bestselling author & renown speaker as we discussed his research and best-selling book and Krush MUST READ: “Talent is Overrated: What really separates World Class Performers from Everyone Else. If you are working to get better at something or if you are a coach, teachers, boss or manager or even a parent of people with goals and objectives this could be one of the most important discussions you could hear when you are Creating Coachable Players. Episode 18-4: Creating Performance Environments: How Athletes are the Sum of Their Experiences

How Athletes are the Sum of Their Experiences You are a product of your Environment. Your athletes & players are products of their environments. So, what do we need to do to create a performance environment? Provide Meaningful Experiences! In essence you are the sum of your experiences. You are also the sum of how you interpret, learn from and respond to each experience you have small or large. This week on Krush Performance I share a great experience I had with three Krush listeners – it was a great 30-minute conversation in the lobby of a restaurant. It was this conversation that set the tone for this weeks show and our trip back to one of the great Krush Conversations with David Epstein, author of the “Sports Gene: Inside the Science of Extraordinary Athletic Performance”. Its a great look back as we move forward into the world of Perception and creating performance environments for our athletes, teams and organizations. Creating performance environments rich with experiences designed to enhance learning and adaptation at any level of sport is a integral part of raising your players potential when you are Creating Coachable Players.
