Melbourne Cup Special Edition In the Cove

    • Arts

Welcome to our second edition of In the Cove Podcast – this is a special in-depth edition where we speak to four Lane Cove locals involved in three big November events.
Melbourne Cup Max

Max Hitchins is Melbourne Cup Max . He is one of Australia’s leading experts on the race Max knows that many Australians just want to be able to say “I backed the winner of the Melbourne Cup.” Hence, In 1987 he decided to find a better and less costly format to be able to do this.  Max decided to see if he could whittle the likely chances down to just six horses instead of 24. He then advises “Have a small each way bet on these six horses and you should be able to say you backed the winner of the Melbourne Cup.”  Max’s system has worked 26 out of the last 32 years. Not perfect…but not bad!

Max now writes two Melbourne Cup eBooks that you can buy and download immediately.

Simon Kennedy
Simon Kennedy is a Lane Cove Local and a very funny man. With more than 16 years as an international headline comedian, presenter and writer, Simon is one of Australia's most insightful, and versatile entertainers. We speak to him about how he has managed to keep busy working as a comedian during COVID 19.

He is going to be very busy on Melbourne Cup day 3rd November 2020 as he is also one of Australia’s best Donald Trump Impersonators. The first Tuesday in November is also the US Election Date – will he have to pivot and become the best Joe Biden impersonator? – Simon would be very happy to take this role on.

Simon has also written the book 9/11 AND THE ART OF HAPPINESS. This book has gained world wide accolades. Simon writes about resilience, success, happiness, and the art of letting go of bitterness and hatred.
Dana Dion and Nicola Hart
Dana and Nicola are both artists who live in Greenwich and they will be taking part in the Greenwich Village Arts Trail
ON 7th and 8th November 2020, Greenwich artists will open their studio doors to the public.
You will meet the artists and see the inner workings of an artist’s studio.
Many of the artists on the Greenwich Village Arts Trail have won multiple awards and have been hung and shown in prestigious art events.
There will be oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings, sculptures, jewellery, pottery, photography on display and for sale on the Greenwich Village Arts Trail.
Huge Plant Sale
Keith and Maureene, a retired couple, are avid gardeners and propagators. In April and October each year Keith and Maureene open their house and hold a huge plant sale. The sale is aptly called the Huge Plant Sale.
All proceeds from the Huge Plant Sale are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). They have nearly raised over $100 000 for breast cancer since they started selling plants a few years ago.
Their garden was featured on Gardening Australia. Costa was In the Cove. Episode details are here.
