    Sinabi ng World Health Organization na ang self-care o pag-aalaga sating sarili ay pag-aalaga sa ating pisikal na pangangatawan, ang ating nutrisyon, at ang ating uri ng pamumuhay. Sa katunayan, sinama nila ang kondisyon ng ating pamumuhay, ang ating kita sa ating trabaho, paniniwala, kung paano tayo nakikisalamuha sa iba, at ang kakayahan natin na alagaan ang ating mga sarili kapag tayo ay may sakit o karamdaman. Ipinakilala din ng WHO ang pyramid model of mental health services kung saan ang pinakapundasyon ay ang pag-aalaga sa sarili. Ang ibig sabihin nito, na ang bago pa man tayo himingi ng tulong sa serbisyo na maari nating makuha sa ating komunidad, ang tulong na ating kailangan ay abot kamay natin.
