Why investors should pay a lower rate than home loan borrowers

Why investors should pay a lower rate than home loan borrowers

Investors pay a higher mortgage rate than home loan borrowers. However, this was not always the case – and there is now a solid argument to suggest that investors should pay less. In reality, the repayment statistics for investors are better than the same numbers for homeowners – but investors get no reward for their better performance.

Cameron Kusher, Executive Director - Economics, at REA Group joins Wealth Editor James Kirby's guest in this episode.

Why this property upturn will be very different

The capacity to borrow will be the big difference in the next upward cycle of residential real estate prices. Property investors might be familiar with the challenges around locating and managing a successful property, but an entire generation of investors has never faced operating in a high-interest rate environment.

Unbiased unlike the other Money Cafe!

Refreshingly unbiased weekly reports. I used to listen to both money cafes however the other would not stop roping their very clear political bias into discussions. Keep up the good work.

Disappointing

After some years of following and enjoying this podcast it has come to the point where James needs to decide if he is a journalist or lobbyist. While some opinion pieces are acceptable unabashed use of this podcast to earn brownie points in the Murdoch echo chamber has become ridiculous. Bye!

It’s just OK

I think I’m going to call time on this version of the Money Cafe now. It’s much less entertaining without Alan Kohler and has turned into a bit of a James Kirby waffle-fest. He brings on guests but often answers his own questions, goes off on tangents and waffling editorials and takes guesses at answering questions without knowing the answers. It’s still OK, just not great. If you’re pretty right wing and only interested in what’s best for the well off in society, you’ll enjoy it.
