Today’s guest with Lisa Daniel on Word for Word is Ruth Katerelos. Ruth is a registered psychologist with over 20 years experience working in the area of mental health. Combining private practice with her role at Queerspace, my guest also manages to find time to be a regular contributor to Melbourne’s arts scene as a performer and producer. On top of that she is also mum to two teenagers. Over the journey Ruth has dealt with a challenging upbringing and the grief of losing a partner. Despite the challenges Ruth has made it her life work to both entertain, but help others via her performance work and as a respected mental health professional.

Sprinkle joins Lisa Daniel on Word for Word 2021
Lisa Daniel’s guest on Word for Word goes by the simple, yet perfectly suited name of Sprinkle. Sprinkle has been active in the fashion, costumery performance, film and curatorial spaces since the mid 1990s. She’s won awards, appeared in kink performances and sex positive films, and her fashion has appeared in countless media from tv to film, to print magazines.
A tall and curvy woman herself, Sprinkle struggled for many years trying to find clothes that not only fit but flattered her curves…to no avail. So instead, she started creating and sewing her own garments, and among other things Sprinkle Emporium was born. Sprinkle has had her fair share of challenges across her life – from a sometimes difficult childhood, to the vagaries of the fashion and performance industries, to losing her partner in 2019 then having to negotiate the wild ride of COVID in 2020. Despite that, my guest has always maintained a positive attitude to life.

As an actor he has worked with the Sydney Theatre Company, American Repertory Theatre in Boston and with artists such as Taylor Mac and Baz Luhrmann. He has toured shows around Australia and internationally and is the founding Chair of Sydney Theatre Company’s Youth Advisory Panel. Belle Zipper joins Lisa Daniel on Word for Word
Lisa Daniels speaks with Belle Zipper. For many of us being diagnosed with a significant degenerative and incurable medical condition at age 44 would challenge us in ways we’ve never before been challenged. But Belle (Belinda) Zipper had a different experience to most – it became a huge turning point in her life, which saw her finally live true to herself and let free the feelings she had suppressed for her whole life.
As she journeyed through the stages of visits to GPs and neurologists and various medical tests, Belle (who was then known as Ben) had a dream where she was living as a female and the diagnosis became the impetus she needed to start to live life as her true self.
