    Pause on Production

    It is with a very heavy heart I say that I will have to pause podcast production at the moment and for an indefinite period due to an unforeseen family crisis. Right now, I need to take care of the girls and myself. ‬ ‪It’s sad because I feel like we were just starting to build community and momentum, but I hope to pick back up where we’re leaving off sometime in the new year.     Episode 5 - Dismantling White Supremacy

    On this episode of We Teach Us Podcast, we look at white supremacy and its negative impact on the school system in America. In the Do Now segment, I ask students, teachers, and parents the question: "What do you think of when you hear the term white supremacy?" In the We Do segment, I speak to community organizer and educator Zellie Imani (@zellieimani). Zellie has served in diverse K-8 settings as an English/Math teacher and curriculum developer. Most recently, Zellie has been organizing against anti-black state violence with St. Louis based Millennial Activists United and  #NJShutItDown, a social justice network of college and high school students in the state of New Jersey. He is also a co-founder of the Black Liberation Collective, a collective consisting of Black students who are dedicated to transforming institutions of higher education through unity, coalition building, direct action, and political education.     Episode 4 - Dismantling Imperialism

    On this episode of We Teach Us Podcast, we look at imperialism and its negative impact on the school system in America. In the Do Now segment, I ask students, teachers, and parents the question: “What did you learn about Native Americans in school?” In the We Do segment, I speak to activists Valerie Adams and Tori Jackson about their insight and experience with imperialism in the U.S. school system. Valerie, Oglala Lakota and originally from South Dakota, and Tori, Muskogee and from Alabama are founders of Alabama Indigenous Coalition who united to successfully abolish Columbus Day and reclaim it as Indigenous People's Day in Tuskegee, Alabama, and are currently fighting against great resistance to do the same in Montgomery Alabama and beyond.     Episode 2 - Segregated Schools, Segregated Funding

    On this episode of We Teach Us Podcast, we look at continued segregation―specifically at the intersection of race and class―of our schools in America. In the We Do segment, I speak to Brittany Packnett-Cunningham (@MsPackyetti), who is an unapologetic educator, organizer,  policy expert, non-profit executive, and writer.  Brittany was active in the Ferguson Uprising and is co-founder of Campaign Zero, a policy platform to end police violence. We Teach Us episode format is modeled after the “I Do, We Do, You Do” gradual release of responsibility lesson format. Do Now ( +-5 minutes): This is a short segment in which various community member respond to a topic-related question or prompt. This Week in Education News (+-5-10 minutes): This segment is a chance to catch up on the education related news of the week. I Do ( +-10 min): This segment is a monologue/”mini-lecture” on the topic of the episode. We Do ( +-20 min): This segment is an interview/discussion with guests on the topic of episode. You Do ( +-10 min): This segment is a chance for listeners to call or write in with their applications, questions, comments, and/or concerns about past and present episode topics. Extended Learning and Homework (+-2-5 min): This segments is a recommendation of books, articles, Ted talks, documentaries, and other resources related to the topic of the episode. Exit Ticket ( +-5 min): This segment is a wrap up, call to action, and conclusion.
