About five years, my whole world was turned upside down when simultaneously I became a mother and abruptly left the corporate world. In what was supposed to be the happiest time in my life, I felt totally lost. But slowly through learning to prioritize real self care, not just bubble baths and pedicures, I was able to realign with my true self.

Today, I’m a yoga instructor and a Self Care Mentor for Moms. Check out my new YouTube show / audio series: Self Care Is My Job, where we’ll be talking with friends in healthcare, wellness and holistic healing about prioritizing our physical and mental health and best practices for navigating all that stuff that gets in our way of doing so.

    Nothing will force you to take a good look at your patterns and shadows like a major life transition, which can look like changing careers, moving, having kids, or becoming an entrepreneur!  I am so thankful to Fi Simler, Founder of Astra Business Coaching, for talking with me about showing up fearlessly and authentically both in life and business in spite of our core wounds and inner critic. 

    We all have residual trauma from past experiences and absorbing programming, which can sometimes block us from taking steps toward the life we really want. One root of this trauma and blockage for many people myself included sounds something like: The harder I work, the more I bust ass, the more I am operate like a machine, is the only way to succeed. But, this mentality is approaching business and success as if it's a one dimensional thing, which couldn't be farther from the truth. Fi reminds us to slow down and ask the question - "Is this true?" Mindfulness through self care like yoga and meditation.

    Actual text message sent to my good friend La Toya just a few days ago:  

    "I am scared. I am avoiding a lot because I don't think I will get the response I'm looking for. Or no one will get it. Or no one will sign up/show up.  Also at the same time I'm just like overwhelmed with life. My brain is already at capacity. I am so far behind in this course. Wow.  I know this is momentary but I'm getting real tired of this broken record. Because I have been here too many times. "  

    In true bestie fashion, within maybe 20 min of this text, La Toya called me up. AND WE GOT TO WORK. She held space for my thoughts (both the rational and irrational). She related by sharing her own experiences. She offered her humble and informed advice. AND THEN, because we are two mamas trying to make a difference, we EVEN starting brainstorming about how to help other women in this same situation.  SO we thought, lets do it all again but for all the world to hear and see! This is not just about venting to a friend, though there is a time and space for that form of self soothing. This is about co-regulating as a form of self-regulating , and it's why haven't a tribe of like-minded friends who share your lived experience is SO IMPORTANT.
