Teen Girl Carly Gregg 'Shoots Mom in Face,' Convicted, Asks For New Trial

Carly Gregg is a good student but has had trouble at school. She briefly attends an alternative school after being caught with a knife. Her parents revoke her phone privileges after she breaks their social media rules. Friends grow concerned when they discover Carly has a burner phone and catch her smoking marijuana. One friend distracts Carly while another informs her mother. Ashley Smylie confronts Carly after school, warning her that her room will be searched when they get home. Ashley heads to Carly’s room while Carly takes the dogs out. Almost immediately, Ashley finds a box of THC vape pens. She takes the box to her bedroom before returning to continue the search. Carly comes back inside, checks on her mother’s location, and quietly heads to her parents' room. She lifts the mattress and retrieves her mother’s .357 Magnum pistol. Immediately after the shooting, Carly uses her mother’s phone to text Heath Smylie, “You almost home honey?” Smylie replies that he’ll be home in about an hour. Carly then texts six friends, saying she has an emergency and needs someone to come over. One friend offers to call 911, but Carly declines. Eventually, a friend agrees to come. When Carly answers the door, she asks the girl, “Are you squeamish around dead bodies?” and then leads her to her mother’s body in the bedroom. Attorney's for the teen convicted for her mother's death, filed a motions based on evidence revealed by her biological father in an interview to news station WLBT. TWIN SISTERS: ONE DEAD, ONE SEARCHING FOR A KILLER

Jody LeCornu and her boyfriend argue, leading to a suggested separation. Her boyfriend asks Jody not to come home that night. After work, the 23-year-old decides to go out with friends to a favorite hangout, the Mt. Washington Tavern. At closing, LeCornu drives a tavern employee home, then stops at an ATM to withdraw money. In the early morning hours on York Road in Baltimore, a white BMW pulls up close to Jody's car, and a man gets out. Jody rolls down her window, and a brief exchange takes place. At 3:40 a.m., the man fires a .38-caliber handgun through the back left passenger window of Jody's car. The bullet strikes her back, severing her spine. As Jody LeCornu flees for her life, the gunman follows closely in the white BMW. Eyewitnesses at the Giant Supermarket and a person making a delivery to Boston Market hear the gunshot and see Jody driving across York Road into the Giant parking lot. She circles the parking lot and coasts to a stop after hitting a curb between the Boston Market and Firestone Tire and Service Center. The shooter waits for Jody's car to come to a complete stop, then pulls his vehicle directly behind hers. Witnesses describe the shooter as a Black male, 5'10" to 6'1", around 220 pounds, wearing a green fatigue-style coat. He gets out, reaches into Jody's car, puts it in park, and takes her purse and cell phone before leaving the scene in his white BMW. The time is 3:41 a.m., and witnesses call 911. Investigators have eyewitness accounts of the man approaching Jody's Honda in the Giant Food Store parking lot and taking items from her car before driving away. Surveillance video and fingerprints also exist. However, no arrest has been made. MYSTERIOUS CASH APP RANSOM NOTE FOR MISSING TEXAS BEAUTY: WHERE IS KALIE?

Kalie Goodwin tells a friend that she’s planning to stay in Houston for a few days with a new  acquaintance called “Country.” Kalie says she doesn’t know him very well, but is looking forward to spending a few days in the city. “Country” arrives to pick up Kalie around 7:00, so her friend says her goodbyes as she watches Kalie get in the passenger seat of a grey sedan.    The day after Kalie heads to Houston, mom Kaci Richardson, gets a call from an unknown number. When she picks up, a man says he has Kalie, and he’ll hurt her unless Kaci pays him $500, an amount he claims Kalie stole from his car. In the background, Kaci can hear Kalie crying and screaming for help—then she hears her daughter get hit... with something metal. Kalie cries out, “Help me mom! They’re beating me. My face is so deformed.”   Kaci can hear someone continuing to hit Kalie, and eventually the caller tells them to stop. The caller tells Kaci to send the money to a Cash App account “1007Owens,” but until they receive the transfer, they will continue to hurt Kalie. When they hang up, Kaci frantically tries to call Kalie, but she isn’t picking up the phone.    Unsure what to do, Kaci calls Baytown police and gives them every detail of the call. However, officers are not convinced Kalie is really in danger. They ask Kaci if Kalie is low on cash or using drugs, and while Kaci denies both theories, officers still believe Kalie might be trying to scam her for money, and tell her the ‘ransom’ phone call is likely an elaborate hoax. Kaci continues trying to get in touch with her daughter, but with no luck, reports Kalie missing the next day.     Joining Nancy Grace Today: Kaci Richardson,  Mother  Wendy Patrick -  California prosecutor, President and Founder of Black Swan Verdicts, Author:   "Red Flags: Frenemies, Underminers, and Ruthless People" wendypatrickphd.com, ‘Today with Dr Wendy’ on KCBQ in San Diego, Twitter: @WendyPatrickPHD, Caryn Stark  - Psychologist, renowned TV and Radio trauma expert and consultant, www.carynstark.com, Instagram: carynpsych, FB: Caryn Stark Private Practice  Brian Fitzgibbons  -  Director of Operations for USPA Nationwide Security,  uspasecurity.com, Instagram: @uspa_nationwide_security, Former. UNSOLVED: AMBER BERBIGLIA FOUND DEAD , CAR STILL RUNNING

While studying abroad in London, Amber Berbiglia meets Jose Tolsar and returns home in love. After two years of dating, they plan to marry just weeks after her college graduation. One Friday afternoon, Amber leaves her apartment to pay bills and run errands. She stops to refuel at Murphy Gas in North Charleston. Amber texts on her phone until 2:30 p.m. and is scheduled to start work at 4 p.m., but she never shows up. A co-worker calls to check on her, but the call goes straight to voicemail. Later that Friday, a 911 call reports an injured person near a car on Old Sanders Road, under the Robert Edge Parkway overpass in North Myrtle Beach. Police respond quickly, finding a woman lying next to her running car with no witnesses in sight. A cell phone, inches from her hand, is actively ringing with missed calls, texts, and emails. First responders find the woman with severe facial injuries that initially make it appear she had been shot. She had already died by the time help arrived, and no witnesses were present to explain what had happened. Investigators discover the woman’s purse inside the car with cash still intact, ruling out robbery as a motive. The victim is identified as Amber Berbiglia  Joining Nancy Grace Today: Amanda Berbiglia - Sister of Amber Berbiglia Karen Ritchie - Best Friend of Amber Barry Hutchinson Sr. -  Former 26 year law enforcement veteran and detective, owner & Chief Investigator for Barry & Associates Investigative Services located in Kansas & Missouri  Dr. Kendall Crowns – Chief Medical Examiner Tarrant County (Ft Worth) and Lecturer: University of Texas Austin and Texas Christian University Medical School Alexis Tereszchuk  -  CrimeOnline Investigative Reporter   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
