Mind of a Monster: The Butcher Baker
Hosted by criminal psychologist Michelle Ward, Mind of a Monster brings you exclusive access and insight into depraved killers. Hear from history’s most notorious serial killers—with chilling audio straight from the monsters themselves. Season 6 examines the case of the Butcher Baker, Robert Hansen. 1980s Alaska: a swirling, chaotic mix of oil workers, dancers, sex workers and old-school cops. On the seedy 4th Avenue strip in Anchorage, nicknamed the world's longest bar, women start to go missing, plucked from the street or the bars and never seen again. In this 7-part series, Dr. Michelle Ward investigates the case of one of the US's most prolific, but not widely known, serial killers. She'll talk to survivors, criminology experts and the police on the ground, uncovering audio tapes, police reports and old newspaper articles, all to reveal the killer's identity as it happened. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

No. It was wrong to execute her.
2023-09-19
A jury made of Karen’s and Kevin’s should never be allowed to control someone’s fate. Regular people are ballistically stupid. Aileen should have been kept alive to be studied by students and experts. They executed her because she was not attractive. The hit-piece HLN did on her where they freeze frame the Aileen’s face at the most un flattering moments is disgusting. Shame on every person involved in killing her. They let way worse live. Oh, that’s right, she killed men. Shame on all of us.
SO boring
2024-02-07
Listened to 4 episodes of season 1. Total snooze, never gets better. Barely talk about the crimes or the perpetrators or the victims. Goes on and on and ON talking to a reporter about hitchhiking, or his first day on the job, or the zeitgeist of the time — but literally almost never talk about the crime itself. Ditto with a detective working at the time. Literally never talk about the case, they only discuss what police work was like, “back then”. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS PODCAST EVEN ABOUT???
Bad production choices
2024-01-10
Overdubbing the narrator’s interview segments detracts from the overall appeal, creating a jarring and unprofessional effect. The production choices seem odd, contributing to a disjointed and artificial feel. The narration comes across as forced and lacks authenticity, resembling more of a subpar acting performance. Additionally, the music and sound design are underwhelming. The use of generic rock music and garbage orchestrations coupled with clichéd stock sound effects creates a sonic backdrop that feels inauthentic and cheaply produced. Pacing is horrible. Overall sensationalistic and corny.
Best Out There
2023-06-26
I think this is the best show it’s kind out there. First of all, it’s written by a psychologist. Secondly, it interviews a lot of people involved and thirdly it doesn’t really dwell on the gory details. Makes it a lot easier not to feel so guilty about being fascinated by this stuff.
