Customer Reviews
TORONTO 1978 - 1990
I lived in Cabbage town during this time. This was during the Bathhouse police raids & the College Avenue Maple Leaf consortium taking advantage of impressionable kids along with societal non acceptance of gays.
Our street was part of the gay very successful business owners who were doing major improvements to the area but some of whom associated with children 14 -18.
This was the beginning of AIDS in Toronto & led to so many young men dying with few doctors
This was also when kids about 10 yrs old were shoe shining & living on Yonge St.
Two men grabbed a kid & killed him on Yonge St in an apt above a business. I knew it well because my optometrist was close by & I was there frequently & worked downtown in an insurance company.
I went to bars there with live music (RonnieHawkins & The Band) & many hockey games.
Boy’s town was very real although I was very innocent at the time & only recognized it once when one of my neighbours used to have about 6 - 8 kids congregate outside his house early evenings.
The homeowner knew I didn’t like this. However I was very sympathetic when he died of AIDS but also knowing he had likely transmitted it to lots of others.
I was there when one victim of the College St consortium jumped off the Don Valley bridge to his death in the 80’s. His abusers were not given more than 3 - 5 years in prison & were paroled.
Prisoners were released into downtown Toronto with little oversight.
My sister & I had trouble keeping clear of them when going to the beaches with my very sweet & trusting nephew.

True North Strong And Weird
The pride of Canada. Been listening to this podcast and all it’s off shoots for years and Jordan will go down as one of Canadas great voices!
Great podcast
Very entertaining podcast but definitely not investigative journalism. Unless we are talking about when Paul Palango is on.
