Jenny Khan - Why I Quit Drinking
Listen, this topic is one I have put off talking about because it's out there once I do. I used to love to drink like it was that security blanket that comforted me most. So, I liked the idea of keeping it in my back pocket for a rainy day. It's a crutch that has distracted me from so many inconvenient truths. Drinking allowed me to not deal with what needed dealing and numb myself instead. Jenny Khan and I are keeping it real with this one!
Lindsay Mayuga - Blocks, Unfollows, and Unsubscribes
Being blocked hurts. I am not here to blow smoke. I am here to tell you that if you use your voice, it will ruffle feathers. It is a sign you are saying something worth saying, as hurtful as it is. I have found that I can be quiet and liked by everyone or speak my truth. It bothers me less and less when it happens. It makes an unfollow seem like no big deal. I think to myself if what I say upsets you, it's not for you! If you feel blocking me is what you need to do, then do you!
Lindsay Mayuga - Babies & Business
For years I thought having a baby would be bad for my business.
The reality is in the short term, yes... you will lose out on income. In the long term, it has been rocket fuel for my business.
I don't give my time away as I used to, and in turn, my time is more valuable.
Don't believe the hype around a baby making things more difficult.
My baby has given me clarity I have never known.
Intentionality I always admired in others.
The ability to stand more confidently in who I am.
Lindsay Mayuga - Specializing
I have always been a color specialist, and at times, I have wished I did both. The why for wanting to do both was to accommodate my clients. I opened a hair color studio, and I remember people literally saying, can you do that? It was luckily at a time in my career where I was confident enough to say YES, I CAN!
The truth is I have always followed my passion, and the money has come! Gone are the days of colorists make all the money, and now I feel we all can be making a great living doing what we love. If you have a passion for cutting and feel like you have to do color because of the money. YOU ARE SELLING YOURSELF SHORT! You can only do services you love; take it from me... I stopped doing base colors during my pregnancy. I do what I want, and you should too!
Lindsay Mayuga - Delegating or Outsourcing
I have found that having employees drains me. That it isn't my zone of genius, but that there are ways to grow my business and life with others' help. Enter outsourcing, how I most like to work with others is on a project basis. This can be anything from cleaning services to a virtual assistant. The dream team is what I like to call it, all the people that help me do what I do. I love being on my own and getting an assist in certain avenues. I love collaborating, and this style of support really honors me!
Lindsay Mayuga - It's Okay To Only Do Hair
In the world we live in, it can be hard to stay in our own lanes and not feel like we have to take on more. It can feel like being a hairstylist is not enough, like you need to get into education or open that salon. What if all you want to do is hair and be a whole human outside of it? Well, I am here to tell you that it can be done and that there is growth for you too!
