Dr. Charles Brenner: Debunking Longevity Myths + Using NAD+ To Age BETTER

Dr. Charles Brenner: Debunking Longevity Myths + Using NAD+ To Age BETTER

What if we could slow down the physical aging process and age better, healthier, and stronger?
Thankfully, there is something we can start doing that will make a drastic impact: Boosting NAD+ in our bodies.

NAD+ is a molecule found in every cell of your body that is involved in all cellular processes in your body, works to boost cellular repair, helps neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress, and so much more.

NAD+ levels naturally decline with age, and research suggests that this decline may contribute to age-related diseases. Hence, boosting NAD+ in the body helps to reverse aging at the cellular level.

In the latest episode of The Darin Olien Show, I sit down with Dr. Charles Brenner to explore the fascinating science around NAD+ supplementation for optimal health, no matter our age. We discuss the fact that there’s no one single hormone that extends lifespan, and the personal importance of staying physically capable to handle life's challenges.

He also shares some fascinating new research on NAD+ supplementation for family health, treatment for heart failure, and helping speed up healing.

Dr. Charles Brenner is a research pioneer in the area of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). NAD+ is vital in the creation of energy in every cell of your body and is intrinsic to the aging process. Dr. Brenner leads groundbreaking clinical trials on NAD+, focusing on its maternal and neonatal effects and translating animal model findings into safe, evidence-based clinical practices for human metabolic stress conditions.

    What we discuss…

(00:00) - Exploring the wild west of supplements (& what to look for)
    (11:12) - Anti-aging science & the important role of NAD+
    (23:29) - Debunking longevity myths
(36:50) - The relationship between sleep, alcohol consumption, and NAD+ levels
(50:26) - The impressive potential of supplementation for family health
(01:10:21) - How NAD+ impacts skin health (& more promising science!)
(01:26:41) - The pitfalls of extreme dieting and pushing your body to ketosis
(01:35:13) - The connecting between carbs, fat storage, and disease

Organic vs Non-Organic Vegetables: Are They Worth The Hype?

Are organic vegetables actually more expensive than non-organic? And what’s the real health cost of trying to save a few dollars on your grocery bill?

The exposure to chemicals in agriculture goes way beyond just us - it’s a vicious cycle of damage to the environment that we CAN stop with some at-home practices.

Join me in this latest solo episode as I explore the debate between organic vs non-organic vegetables, including the health benefits and economic considerations of choosing organically grown produce. I address the common misconception that organic food, which often adheres to practices like permaculture and regenerative agriculture, is more expensive by highlighting the nutritional advantages and the absence of harmful chemicals.

I also address the growing concern over the use of harmful chemicals like glyphosate in conventional farming and how you can reduce your exposure to these chemicals and make healthier more sustainable choices in your own kitchen.

Aggie Lal: Healing Your Hormones, Syncing with Your Cycle, and Biohacking Like a Woman

Aggie Lal: Healing Your Hormones, Syncing with Your Cycle, and Biohacking Like a Woman

Women have just been treated as slightly less hairy men when it comes to health and wellness.

With multitudes of studies being done on everything from fat loss, fasting, and nutrition - without a single menstruating woman included in the study.

Health and wellness isn’t one size fits all. Males are solar with 24 hour hormonal cycles, while females are lunar with a 28 day hormonal cycle that is deeply connected to the moon. So our approaches to health need to be completely different.

In the latest episode of The Darin Olien Show, I sit down with Aggie Lal as we discuss the damage being done to women as we live in a world that’s less and less attuned to their natural cycles, she shares the challenges of feeling safe as a female traveler, and the true health impacts of suppressing emotions for the sake of keeping others happy.

Aggie Lal is a best-selling author of ‘Biohack Like a Woman’, certified nutrition and health coach, host of the top rated podcast ‘Biohacking Bestie’, and TEDx speaker on a mission to revolutionize the world of biohacking for women.

    What we discuss…

(00:00) - Travel & the misconceptions we hold about happiness and quality of life in different countries
(08:52) - the contrasting experiences of safety between men and women & the need for safety and honesty in partnerships
(15:33) - Navigating relationships and how unprocessed emotions can have a more significant impact on health than diet alone
(27:52) - The impact of the modern world on female health
(45:35) - Societal pressures & the importance of true self-care
(59:33) - The transformative power of weightlifting for all round female health
(01:09:43) - Listening to your gut & living in alignment with your nature

Adam Sud: Healing anxiety, depression, and addiction with a plant-based diet

Adam Sud: Healing anxiety, depression, and addiction with a plant-based diet

If someone told you that their addiction was an act of self-care, what would you say?

Would you believe them - accepting that they need their addiction to keep going, or would you see an opportunity for change?

In a world where we see more of someone’s highlight reel than their struggles, it’s hard for us to see all the nuances that come with addiction and poor mental health. And all the options available in the process of recovery…like plant based nutrition, for example.

In the latest episode of The Darin Olien Show, I sit down with Adam Sud to discover his transformative struggle with depression, anxiety, and addiction to being able to help others on their path to recovery. The importance of recognizing that our instincts are not failing us; rather, they are responding to an environment for which they were not designed. And the role nutrition plays in emotional wellness, highlighting the often overlooked connection between mental health issues like depression and anxiety with our physical health.

Adam Sud is a wellness and nutrition expert, speaker, and CEO of Plant Based for Positive Change. He researches nutrition's role in disease reversal, mental health and addiction, and has applied his expertise in treatment centers using plant-based nutrition as a tool for strengthening recovery and relapse prevention.

    What we discuss…

(05:53) - Addiction as misguided self care and the burden of depression
(18:44) - Surviving the pain of personal crisis and finding purpose out the other side
(23:32) - Self-experimentation and the transformational power of plant-based recovery
(32:10) - How nutrition can aid in addiction recovery and have significant impact on your mental health

So many good thing but a few odd

I love Darin and his superfood tips. I love how he loves and lives and so many other things. So many great shows and fatal conveniences. I find there’s a few guests he has that seem to be more conspiracy theorists and/or anti government/vax/etc. Which I find just very difficult to listen to because it doesn’t seem to be very educational, just more ‘this is what I think and you should just believe it’. But otherwise for the most part it’s great and very educational. Especially the ones about the environment, food, and taking care of yourself ¨̮

Thank you

Thank you Darin for helping me be more knowledgeable to make better changes to my lifestyle through sustainability and nutrition!

I love hearing about the sustainable products we can use to help us and the Earth.

I was wondering, how do you determine whether a brand is good or not? You’ve said a few times about how you “vet” them so I was wondering what we can do to determine if a company or product is actually as healthy and sustainable as they claim. Is there a lot of genuine trust in the “Certified B-Corp’s”?
