258: Rhythmic Reconnection (with Dave Smith)

Ever felt like your rhythm skills aren't quite what they should be - but you really didn't know what you could do about that?

We've found that typically, the rhythm side of things is massively overlooked by music learners. The basics come easily, and then we kind of forget about actually improving our sense of rhythm.

So even though it's a huge part of the difference between an "okay" performance and a really great performance, often we aren't actually working on our rhythm skills the way we could or should be.

Today we have a mini-interview with our recent Guest Expert, drummer extraordinaire Dave Smith, whose approach to developing your sense of rhythm and your connection to the pulse of music is really special - and really powerful.

RhRobert ,

Keeps delivering excellent content.

I listen on my Apple Watch, using a watch app called Outcast. At the gym with bluetooth headphones. Great experience.
Christopher is an excellent teacher and communicator. His interviews are top notch.
I enjoy episodes with some music theory/techniques best. Germain Griggs, for example, had a number of great tips and the episodes dealing with Kodaly theory and the importance of singing were outstanding.
I like Christopher's summary at the end of long interviews and the fact that a transcript of the interview is available if needed.
I sometimes think I learn more from the podcasts than I do from my membership in Musical-U where I seem to stall frequently.

Keep up the excellent effort on the podcasts.

Musicality Podcast

I am really enjoying these podcasts. They are so inspiring: if you want to play music, you can definitely play music! And here's how to realise that dream.
My favourite so far is 012, Learning to Sing in Tune with George Bevan. Then, when you go to the podcast notes, you can look up The Choir That Can't Sing, and be amazed at how well they do sing! Give this podcast a try: you won't be disappointed.
