In Episode 1, we look back at the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Act. On December 11, 2019, tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets of Assam to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. And by the end of the day, Assam had turned into a battleground.
Last year’s protest, which claimed five lives, was perhaps the most widespread opposition the state had seen since the Assam Agitation in the 1980s. Over the next few days, five people were killed by the Police. What happened after that? Did they find justice, or did it remain elusive?
