    388. Alexx Stuart, Low Tox Life founder, shares 20 common situations that can be tricky with getting your people on board the low tox train and how to navigate them: Part 1

Have you ever felt super passionate about making a change for people or planet in the low tox sphere, only for it to land like a lead brick with your kids, partner, family or friends?
Maybe you’ve joined the groups, watched the documentaries, read the books and you can’t understand why people aren’t excited to come along the ride with you… Maybe you’re struggling to make a positive case for change… Maybe your family members think you’re a hippy who’s overreacting, or an annoying parent or a partner just wanting to buy lots of things we don’t need, or someone trying to make everyone do more in an already busy day or someone making up problems when you could just paint over it (hellooooo the mould remediation discussion!).
Whatever it is, this week’s show, I tackle the first 10 of 20 of the most common objections from family members across body, food and home topics, as well as talking about the best ways to encourage people around you to get on board whatever changes you know would benefit you all. The next 10 will be in Part 2 soon.
The 10 situations in Part 1 are:
Kids with friends obsessed with a certain drink bottle
A teen in the cool gang and the gang are starting to vape or use synthetic fragrance sprays.
Little Kid starting to get fussy about food once they see how/what other kids eat
Today is about creating low toxic unity, not ‘annoying overreactor division’ as it often goes down. Has this been you?  I’d love to hear what you struggle with sometimes in getting people around you to see why it matters not just to you, but to them as well. Alexx x

    387. Microbiome health and resilience building - Part 1, with microbiologist Kiran Krishnan

    387. Microbiome health and resilience building - Part 1, with microbiologist Kiran Krishnan

What a treat this Part-1 of microbiome explanation is with @kiranbiome this week on the podcast. We explore:

Different types of bacteria and their various roles in the gut, including the importance of their balance and diversity to overall well-being and resilience. The gut/immune connectionThe importance of working on growing your window of tolerance of food variety and the potential downsides of narrowing your food mix too much and for too long.  How we get to a place where because we’re resilience-focused 80% of the time, the 20% isn’t make-or-break when it comes to choices/social ‘go with the flow’ moments. (As long as we don’t start putting everything in the 20% as @livealivehq reminded us last week!! 😘)
It was so detailed and thorough that we invariably only made it through half of my wishlist topics, so I’ve invited Kiran back for Part 2, where we will explore “leakiness” in the skin, brain, gut, and more in August.

    386. Your immune system needs the whole you to be well to do its job. Here’s how, with Shalani McCray

Immune support and health and tips and tricks to boost ourselves this time of year with changing seasons, is common and normal to be chatting about, and of course, often very helpful.
    BUT.
I knew when I invited my dear friend and wise sage, Shalani McCray @livealivehq who is a naturopathic nutritionist, practitioner of many years, an EFT, MAPS and GAPS practitioner, an herbalist and an ordained interfaith minister… that we wouldn’t just be talking about garlic soaked socks and vitamin D capsules, but  about fundamental common sense inputs for being WELL and robust and having the vitality to withstand common lurgies for the most part in the first place.
    We talk about:

DietsSunshineGriefThe Nervous SystemConnection to all thingsExploring therapeutic tools we don’t need to see someone for
    And more.
Come, listen and be soothed by the simple things that count BIG, Alexx x

    385. Exploring the lack of progress on biodiversity and conservation with author of “Wild Quests”, Satyajit Das

    385. Exploring the lack of progress on biodiversity and conservation with author of “Wild Quests”, Satyajit Das

This podcast is a big exploration of several important topics of our times (Das hates the word ‘conversation’ and shares why in the show)

People feel jaded seeing injustices inflicted on people, from corporate to political to personal, without a sense of real accountability for actions taken and how that’s impacting everything from polarization to lack of success in environmental care and regeneration. The corporatisation of not-for-profits and climate change are feeding into many people’s scepticism that the policies and solutions being tabled will get us results. Wild Animals and Das’ book “Wild Quests” to help remind us what needs our attention and witness. Why “Donate $1 a day to save the Koala/Nature reserve/World” is not working. Living with our own contradictions - impossible to escape if we want to unite over what will make a difference.
Das isn’t here to give people comfortable ‘off ramps’ and this was definitely a thought provoking hour exploring things we’re all often thinking about, also often despairing over the state of, and yet never moving forward and we aim to light a fire or remind us to find our overlaps and common ways to move forward.
I hope you love it as much as I did, your host, Alexx

    384. Could the secret to ageing better be so simple? Juliet Starrett explains…

How do you go putting your shoes and socks on while standing and not leaning against anything? How about 1-legged toothbrushing?
Amidst the discussions on the finer points of VO2Max, perfecting your form with the bench press and focusing on protein prioritisation, Mobility and Stability too, deserve pride of place in your physical fitness but they’re not extra and exhausting ‘new to-dos’ for the list:
Juliett and Kelly Starlett have got it down to 10 tests + 10 physical practices that create 10 ways to make your body work better, most of which you can incorporate into what you’re already doing - even while watching TV. Thank god, as I’m only part the way through the new Bridgerton series 😅
It is such a joy to bring you this chat with Juliet, who was also a professional whitewater paddler, winning 3 World Championship and 5 national titles. Juliet is on a mission to help people MOVE more and what I love about her whole vibe is that we’re not being scared into it or shown something that feels 1000 steps away from where one might be today, but we’re invited through curiosity, play and being shown that progress = success.
Get inspired with me and enjoy the show,

    383. Kids and tech: How to cultivate a healthy, safe blend of tech and reality in the digital world with psychologist, and cyberpsychology researcher Dr Jocelyn Brewer

    383. Kids and tech: How to cultivate a healthy, safe blend of tech and reality in the digital world with psychologist, and cyberpsychology researcher Dr Jocelyn Brewer

Big tech poses a double issue regarding tech and kids and family concerns.
No1. For Parents trying to learn practical skills about parenting and caring in the age of so much technology and now AI, we’re often very quickly scared to death: The algorithms favour sensationalist, fear-based marketing: the worst of the worst facts get preference over moderate, nuanced skill-building messaging and we tend to then act out of fear when communicating with our kids around tech, instead of curiosity, building trust, teaching boundaries and validating their interests with their safety in mind.
No2. For Kids, the algorithms can serve sensational, sexual or violent content that they’re not ready for and don’t know how to deal with in a healthy way, often sometimes feeling shame or breeding secrecy over what they’ve discovered or private conversations they’ve been invited to.
We need to figure out how to be better flashlights for their spotlight minds, and Dr Jocelyn Brewer is back on the podcast to help us take a deep breath and get really good at it.
    We cover:

Gaming/Gaming styles and connection and community green/red flagsTech usage and how we talk about it with our kids (pro tip: WITH, not AT for starters!)Our fears around risk can create a win/lose battle where no one wins. Social media - we’re consuming a product, NOT the effort behind it. Kids don’t realise. DMs/Messaging and navigating communication and kids knowing how to deal with tough things friends go through (SO good!) Escalation - communication, content, sensationalism in algorithms. AI and the way forward with the pervasive amount of synthetic content now being generated and shared.
Share it far and wide - I haven’t spoken to a single parent or teacher who hasn’t got concerns over some of these topics, and we need more practical skill building, not more fear and denial.
