    100NO 581: Is Breakfast the Devil's meal?

    100NO 581: Is Breakfast the Devil's meal?

With the rising popularity of fasting, has breakfast been demonized unfairly? What does it mean to be a breakfast eater today? Is it eggs and greens to kickstart your day like Marcus or is it an Espresso or two to tide you over to your first meal of the day, sometime around lunchtime when the hanger kicks in? Damo sees breakfast as an opportunity to provide fuel for the brain to get going for the day ahead, so that we can think clearly. An opportunity to help balance our moods, hormones and creating less stress within the body. Maybe breakfast isn’t for you and eating your calorie load across two meals in the afternoon works great for you. But if breakfast is the meal that you look forward to most and it helps you feel balanced, don’t skip it just because everyone else is doing it. One size does not fit all.

100NO 580: Urgency Culture: Real or Not Real?

100NO 580: Urgency Culture: Real or Not Real?

Many years ago, Greg McKeown introduced us to the humble brag, but has the humble brag (we spoke about this on episodes 68 and 378) now found itself an older cousin called Urgency Culture?

Do you find yourself unable to say NO just in case a better offer pops up and then find yourself over-committed and overwhelmed?

Do you preface your answers to “How are you?” with ‘I’m busy!”.

Do you drop what you are doing every time a message or a call comes through?

Do you find yourself checking your phone and social media at every opportunity, just in case you miss out on something happening in the world around you?

A sense of urgency can look very different from one person to another, but following on from a recent National Geographic article about responding immediately to texts, is it time to pause and find ways to counteract this urgency culture?

In an increasingly connected world, urgency culture blurs the line between what is urgent and what is important. The Eisenhower Matrix is a great starting point as to how you can decipher between what is urgent and what is important.

In this discussion, Damo and Marcus share some suggestions as to how you can find the time in your life to slow down and help move yourself towards a parasympathetic state of mind, rest, digest and repair.

OUR LONGEVITY EXPERIENCES TO IKARIA AND SARDINIA ARE COMING UP FAST!

    100NO 579: Alcohol - Vice or Villain?

    100NO 579: Alcohol - Vice or Villain?

Alcohol - What’s the truth? Does your body go into shutdown if you consume alcohol as Dave Asprey recently stated in this Instagram post. There is truth in the fact that alcohol is a toxin and it’s a toxin to the brain and the body has to clear it. But should it be so demonized that it is to blame for Alzheimer’s, Heart Disease, Diabetes and Cancer? Like most things, whether it be nutrition, movement or alcohol, we encourage you to be your own experiment. Some alcohol suits some better than others; some can handle one or two, others none. It’s the same with coffee. Tune into how your body responds and choose accordingly. Be your own experiment.

    100NO 578: Longevity Wars

    100NO 578: Longevity Wars

Following a recent instagram post by Dan Buettner who introduced a medical doctor to rebut Dave Asprey’s claims about oats, we ask if we are about to see the longevity space erupt in war. We can’t be sure who is throwing the first grenade. Was it Dave Asprey or is it Dan Buettner?  Do we need to rush out and soak our oats for breakfast tomorrow to live to 100 and beyond? In our analysis of the Blue Zone diets, no other Blue Zone consumes oats regularly as part of their diet. If we look at Okinawa, they’re eating rice. If we look at Costa Rica, they’re having corn.  What we do know is that it’s not nutrition alone that helps people live a long life.  Despite us pitting longevity guru v longevity guru and the clickbait that we see daily, such conversations are raising people’s consciousness on what it takes to age well. Depending on how you want to approach longevity, we encourage you to find the model that best fits with your  philosophy and then move in that direction.

100NO 577: Do Toxic Relationships Impact on Longevity?

100NO 577: Do Toxic Relationships Impact on Longevity?

In a recent article, the oldest woman on the planet, María Branyas Morera, 115, said that the key to longevity is to stay away from toxic people. We know that the quality of relationships can have a large impact on the quality of our health but why do we often find ourselves in toxic situations, unable to step away? Do we get stuck because we can’t see a pathway out? Regardless if the toxic relationship is with others, food, money, family; the biggest question we have to ask ourselves is, is what we are putting up with worthy of what we want in our lives? This episode discusses toxic relationships at length and acknowledges that often people don’t have the support in their lives to help them exit such a relationship. If this episode has triggered you, please have the courage to care about yourself enough to find your way out of the toxic situation. Organizations such as Rize Up, dedicated to supporting the many families affected by domestic and family violence, are able to help up.

100NO 576: From Giving to Others to Giving to Self with Anita Spehar

100NO 576: From Giving to Others to Giving to Self with Anita Spehar

This week we welcome long time listener, first time guest Anita Spehar onto the podcast. From working 10+hour days, 7 days a week to now traveling solo in her motorhome, Anita recognised that for much of her life she had been giving to others - from work to family and everything in between - and decided that for the next 12 months, she needed to make her life about giving to herself. The result? House sold. Motorhome purchased. Solo traveling around Australia, not to mention joining Damo and MP in both Ikaria and Sardinia on their upcoming 100 Not Out Longevity Experience. “Why wait for when you can’t do, do it while you can” is Anita’s new motto. As Anita says, “if you feel like you’re missing out on something, get your boots on and do it!” If you are like Anita, perhaps visiting Ikaria and Sardinia are on your must visit list of destinations to immerse yourself in the culture that epitomizes longevity and connection. If that is you, get your boots on and head over to 100notout.com to find out more. The groups are almost full (max group size 18).
