Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing BOOKS vs FILMS - honing in on some of the darkest BOOK moments that, for varying reasons, simply never made their way onto the silver screen.

While the film adaptations brought the magic of Hogwarts to life on the big screen, they were not without their limitations. In the process of adapting the complex and intricate world of the books into a more visually-driven medium, certain dark and unsettling moments were omitted or altered, leaving fans with a somewhat diluted version of Rowling's original vision.

These were moments so dark that (in the case of some) they had to be removed in order to keep the film’s PG rating down. 

Today, we’ll delve into these dark moments left out of the films, exploring the reasons behind their omissions and the impact of these changes on the overall story.

Hey everyone. Welcome to another instalment of Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’ll be taking a look at some of the most well known characters who show up in the Harry Potter series, but whose Hogwarts houses are never identified. For anyone who’s read or watched the Harry Potter series, the four houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are common knowledge. Based on the four founding members of the school, Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin, the houses reflect the strengths, qualities, and beliefs of these witches and wizards, with each of the four houses being named after their respective founder. 

Those sorted into Gryffindor house value bravery and courage. Hufflepuff students believe in loyalty, patience and fair play. Ravenclaw witches and wizards, on the other hand, are committed to intellect and wisdom. And, lastly, Slytherin house welcomes students with immense ambition and cunning.

From almost the immediate beginning of the series, fans are led to believe that these four houses play an immensely important role in the future and identity of the witches and wizards who attend school there.

"It is often said of the Malfoy family that you will never find one at the scene of the crime, though their fingerprints might be all over the guilty wand. These few sentences…Actually sum up the Malfoy family pretty well.

Because you see, throughout Wizarding history the Malfoy family have consistently leveraged their immense wealth in order to exert influence and power within wizarding society.

The descendants of a LONG line of pure-blood wizards, the Malfoys have long pulled the monetary puppet strings, playing a significant role in shaping the power dynamics and societal norms within the magical community.

From their impressive ancestral home to their penchant for dark magic and discriminatory ideologies, it’s safe to say that the Malfoys have left an indelible and controversial mark on the wizarding world.

Come to think of it..Stain might be a better word to use.

Today we’re going to be taking a look at one of the most beloved, innocent, and selfless characters of the entire series- Dobby. 

Dobby the big hearted House Elf makes his first appearance in the Chamber of Secrets- when he enters the home of #4 privet drive at perhaps the worst moment imaginable- the same day that Vernon Dursley, Harry's terrible uncle, is having a very important business dinner.

Dobby did, however, act with good intentions, and from this moment onwards he continued to win over our hearts with each subsequent appearance. He brought so much to the series with hilarious lines, helped our hero through his journey, and is one of the most loyal and honest characters in the series. 

HOWEVER, despite being a fan favorite, Dobby was severely underrepresented in the films, and actually had a much larger presence in the books.
