Do You Like My Little Lie?

It’s the time of year when skeletons come out of the closet. You might describe today’s story as a classic “noir,” if it wasn’t … Continue reading Do You Like My Little Lie? →

The best, rawest and most beautiful podcast there is

This is my favourite podcast in the world. Lea is the perfect host. She brings people on that have the craziest, most shocking, most honest stories. I have cried for whole episodes, I have laughed, I have been in disbelief, and I have heard about life viewpoints and experiences that I couldn’t even begin to fathom, understand and hear before. The best of it all is Lea’s commentary and reflections at the end of each episode. She draws beautiful conclusions, connecting little pieces and showing us what we all, even as strangers, have in common in our lives. It is always a deep reflection about ideas such as what it means to forgive, make mistakes, endure, fail. In essence, what it means to be human.

white woman storytime

I listened to it for a while because here and there, I can tell that the producer is actually a really good storyteller. But time and time again I find myself wondering what perspective I am listening to. I dont like hearing someone whining from their ivory tower and hard life and houses (most people have existential fears during corona). I also dont want to hear how SUPER impressive the Schmidt family are ( „The Schmidts“): SPOILER: some white people with the privilege of traveling everywhere and be and asset to the country rather than a crisis. Another SPOILER: those are all war-torn countries. Afghans and Pakistanis who climb mountains like that on a daily bc thats their life, would never be called impressive in the same way. I also dont want to hear about how progressive Denmark is, why dont you talk about the ghetto-laws in DK? Why? Because of your perspective that is old fashioned. We millennials are called annoying but we know a classic perspective of orientalizing and making that perspective the norm. tell other stories and get your head out of your own bubble. Thats your job as a storyteller.
