Back before the internet and cable TV, before jobs and kids, before ipods and iphones, and especially before iTunes, this funny thing used to happen. People used to actually go to the record store at midnight to be among the first to buy a new album by their favorite artist. Then you’d walk home, maybe with a friend (if you were lucky, you were with a friend) and the two of you would open the record and put it on. Together, you would just sit there and listen. Afterwards, you would talk about what you just heard, and then maybe start it again.

Record Time is a podcast that attempts to reconnect you to the joy of listening to your favorite music. A love song to music and the art of the album, each episode encourages you to turn off the world and turn on a record, give it your full attention and truly discover it again. We pair each record with an appropriate adult beverage. Partially because that was what we wished we could have done back in the day, and partially to help you savor the act of blocking out the noise of the world and focusing on the power of music to trigger nostalgia, new insights, and joy.

Your hosts are Pete & Tim, music lovers, performers and long-time friends, who have assembled a carefully crafted playlist of great listening experiences. We spend each episode savoring the immediate pleasures of a record, and dig deep to uncover its secrets. We end each episode performing a cover of a song from the record. Spanning genres, decades and styles, Record Time is here to encourage you to press pause on your distractions and press play on the magic of great music. New episodes every other week.

Here are all the songs from season 2 of Record Time, including a couple for episodes we never got to record. We need to press pause on the metaphorical Record Time tape, so wanted to say thanks for listening and playing along from home. Let's all go and enjoy as much music as we can.

Record Time LIVE - Bob Marley Live

Record Time LIVE - Bob Marley Live

Pete and Tim round out the first half of season 2 bringing some rays of sunshine to a cold October night with Bob Marley's 1975 album LIVE. Contemplate the one drop, trances and the invention of the meme-worthy word "hangry", and get down and skanky with some of the greatest live reggae ever put to record. The episode ends with the boys' cover of "Trenchtown Rock", with special guests Dave DeSimone on drums and Keith Messier on guitar.

Next up: Alison Krauss and Union Station's "Live" from 2003.

Record Time LIVE - Portishead Live at Roseland Ballroom NYC

PNYC represents the live album and DVD of Portishead's lush and immersive live show with the NY Philharmonic at the Roseland Ballroom. Recorded in 1998, this album is the crowning achievement of the pioneering trip hop group. Revel in the raw energy and cinematic expansiveness, and marvel at Beth Gibbons' perfect vocals. We end with our cover of "Sour Times" featuring Jasmine Moran on the flute.

Next up, 1975's Bob Marley Live!

Record Time LIVE - Set List by The Frames

Record Time LIVE - Set List by The Frames

Pete and Tim both really hope if there's one album you listen to this season, it's THIS one. It deserves every ounce of recognition and appreciation it can get. Before writing "Falling Slowly" and starring in the movie "Once", Glen Hansard had an incredible indie rock band that really knew how to work an audience. Check out the energy, musicianship and raw emotion of this incredible experience, documented for all to enjoy. Pete and Tim end with their cover of the angsty "Pavement Tune".

Next time we check out the trip hop classic Portishead, live from the Roseland Ballroom in 1998 (aka "PYNC").

Record Time LIVE - Judy Garland Live at Carnegie Hall

Pete and Tim return in episode 2 with a belt and a sizzle - Judy Garland's marathon of a 1961 performance at Carnegie Hall, one of the most popular live albums in history. Dig the many layers and complexities of Judy's personality, and how she brings it to life in her performances and song choices. We send you off this episode with our cover of "After You're Gone", which we think came out particularly well!
