S1Ep02. Inclusion or Bust?: Discussing Domestic Violent Extremists (DVEs) with Daveed Gartenstein-Ross Data Reveal

    • Technologie

In today’s episode, we reflect on September 11, 2001, as a turning point twenty years later. We discuss data related to domestic violent extremism and the challenges we are facing related to this grassroots phenomenon. We discuss data literacy problems and extremism that bends data to fit specific views that deny the ground truth.

Our guest Dr. Daveed Gartenstein-Ross is a scholar, author, practitioner, and entrepreneur who is the founder and chief executive officer of Valens Global and also leads a project on domestic extremism for the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD). The International Herald Tribune has described Daveed as “a rising star in the counterterrorism community.” He has previously held positions at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Google’s tech incubator Jigsaw, and Georgetown University. Daveed has recently published two monographs on domestic extremism as part of the project he leads for FDD, exploring white supremacist extremism and the militant anarchist and anti-fascist movements.
