    Episode 11 OBJECT IN SENTENCE PATTERN

    Check out my latest episode! OBJECT IN SENTENCE PATTERN   In the traditional sentence pattern, an object is a noun or pronoun that receives the action of the verb in a sentence. TYPES OF OBJECTS There are two types of objects: direct objects and indirect objects. DIRECT OBJECT A direct object receives the action of the verb directly. INDIRECT OBJECT An indirect object receives the action indirectly, usually through a preposition or a verb phrase. EXAMPLE In the sentence "I threw the ball to my sister", "the ball" is the direct object, and "my sister" is the indirect object. EXAMPLES FOR SVO SENTENCE PATTERN 1. The cat is chasing the mouse. 2. The teacher corrected the test papers. 3. My mom cooked a delicious meal. 4. The children play in the playground. 5. I won the gold medal. 6. Gokul caught a big fish. 7. The gardener planted some plants. 8. The workers build a new building. In the SVO sentence pattern, the object is a noun, pronoun, or any other word that receives the action. The object is the person, thing, or concept that the subject acts upon. NOUN AS OBJECT The cat caught the mouse. PRONOUN AS OBJECT She called him. GERUND AS OBJECT verb forms ending in -ing She enjoys singing. INFINITIVE AS OBJECT verb forms preceded by "to" She wants to play. CLAUSE AS OBJECT I know that you are coming. NOUN PHRASE A noun phrase is a group of two or more words headed by a noun that includes modifiers. ROLE OF THE NOUN PHRASE A noun phrase plays the role of a noun. . A noun phrase can function as a subject, an object, or a complement within a sentence. Noun phrases consist of a noun and all of its modifiers.
