    Sinabi ng World Health Organization na ang self-care o pag-aalaga sating sarili ay pag-aalaga sa ating pisikal na pangangatawan, ang ating nutrisyon, at ang ating uri ng pamumuhay. Sa katunayan, sinama nila ang kondisyon ng ating pamumuhay, ang ating kita sa ating trabaho, paniniwala, kung paano tayo nakikisalamuha sa iba, at ang kakayahan natin na alagaan ang ating mga sarili kapag tayo ay may sakit o karamdaman. Ipinakilala din ng WHO ang pyramid model of mental health services kung saan ang pinakapundasyon ay ang pag-aalaga sa sarili. Ang ibig sabihin nito, na ang bago pa man tayo himingi ng tulong sa serbisyo na maari nating makuha sa ating komunidad, ang tulong na ating kailangan ay abot kamay natin.     The World Health Organization described self-care as something that encompasses physical hygiene, nutrition, and lifestyle. In fact, they further expanded it and included the influence of our living conditions, income level, cultural beliefs, social habits, and even our ability to self-medicate.

    It is WHO as well who introduced the pyramid model of mental health services wherein at the very foundation of the pyramid is self-care. This only shows that before we seek services available in our community, the help that we need is actually within our reach.

    For this episode, we will highlight how self-care relies on our own hands. Meaning, it is the individual person who acts to preserve health through self-care.
