A version of this podcast is also available on the Sota Maehara Extras Youtube channel.

Episode 5 - Gender Equality in Running

Episode 5 - Gender Equality in Running

Welcome back to episode 5 of this podcast series. Voices of the runner.

Today I am joined by Mei Zheng who is a member of the USyd RunClub.

She has recently, over the last year and a bit completed her first half marathon as well as her first full marathon at the Black mores running festival. We talk through some of her reflections about what she has learnt and experienced on her journey.

We delve deep into the different barrier to getting involved in running. In its most simplistic form, running is an accessible sport but there exist many invisible barriers that contributed to inequitable access to the sport. Such as socioeconomic status and gender.

Finally, we end on a comparison between calligraphy and running. Both different forms of meditation and frequently used as a route to escape reality. Physcially the differences are obvious, but we  explore the idea that the physcological responses might be more similar than expected.

    Episode 4 - The Why

    Episode 4 - The Why

Voice of a Runner - Join my story of how running has cultivated itself into my lifestyle. Running is not always about pain, difficulty and achievement. Enjoyment and a healthy balanced mindset are often underappreciated within the running community as we often get lost striving to be better versions of ourselves. Special thanks to Sota Maehara for helping me co-host this episode.

    Episode 1 - Stories from a Runner

    Episode 1 - Stories from a Runner

Welcome to this new podcast series "Voices of the Runner - stories from your everyday warrior". Though it’s amazing to hear stories from elite athletes, it’s also important to recognise that their needs can be very different from the needs of the everyday runner. This series is about collecting stories from a diverse field of runners, giving them a platform to share their own personal experience as well as touching on some of the science behind their running lifestyle.

In our very first episode, we speak to Steven Chung, a Sydney local who started as a non-runner and has slowly transformed to becoming an up and coming sub-elite.
