The current monarch, Queen Elizabeth the second, at the age of 93, has ruled as the head of the monarchy for 65 years, the longest reign of any monarch in the world. Despite their popularity among a core following both at home and overseas, the last few decades have seen the royals dogged by numerous scandals.
