We are joined once again by our monthly Private Wealth Advisor Supal Vora, CEO of Navina Wealth, to explain how to segregate your savings to short, medium and long-term investments and how that will save you taxes in the long run. 4:50 pm The City of Sugar Land wants to build a $146 million rapid-start natural gas plant to provide “clean and sustainable” power to support the Texas energy grid.  The plant, if completed, will be located on 8 acres west of the Sugar Land Regional Airport. The land is on a 100-acre planned industrial park that formerly housed the Central Prison Unit, ⁠which closed in 2011⁠. On September 5, nearly 300 Fort Bend County residents packed the atrium of the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land to protest and reject the proposal. We are joined today by Telfair residents Sanjay Singhal and Sapana Patel to tell us more about this contentious plan. 5:20 pm Diwali is just around the corner (well, actually in 7 weeks), and many preparations are being made for events and celebrations. Harris County Pct. 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones’ office is exploring the possibility of making it legal to sell fireworks five days ahead of Diwali. To tell us more about it, we will hear from some of her staff as well as community activist Karun Sreerama who is offering them some guidance. The event featured the usual booths and eating stalls, but what stuck out especially this year was the stage show of local talent from dancers to fashion shows and skits and the way it was pulled together. The performances were on time, and the music, digital backdrops and lighting kept the audience riveted to their seats. It was a turnaround from previous years of stage shows, so we asked President Parul Fernanades and Program Chair Jasmeeta Singh to tell us how they pulled it off. 4:50 pm Texas House District 26 is up for grabs after the previous representative Republican Jacey Jetton lost to challenger Matt Morgan in the primary. Chinese-American Democrat Daniel Lee hopes to capitalize on this changing of guard and gain the seat in the November election. Lee’s platform includes reforms in infrastructure, healthcare, education and controlling gun violence. He joins us today to explain his programs and what makes him the better candidate for the district. 5:20 pm The Foundation for Children’s Cancer Research and Support will be holding it annual fundraising gala on October 5th at the Stafford Civic Center. The nascent 7 year old organization is a labor of love for the founders Jeet & Keka Kar who mortgaged their entire lifestyle in India to come to the US and take care of their young son who had cancer and has been in remission. This made them realize there are other children that need the same help, especially in India. We have them with us today to explain more about the organization and goals.
