Twitter Versus Mastodon: Who will fix our broken social media spaces? From Elon Musk to Mark Zuckerberg, from Apple to Amazon Web Services, from Parlor to Mastodon, who will protect democracy from the rule of the few? Who will protect free speech and or against hate speech and misinformation? In this interview with professor Yom Ophir of the University of Buffalo we discuss all of these issues and more. Yotam Ophir (PhD, University of Pennsylvania, 2018) is an Assistant Professor of Communication at the University at Buffalo. His work combines computational methods for text mining, network analysis, experiments and surveys to study media content and effects in the areas of political, science, and health communication.
Dr. Ophir authored and co-authored more than 30 peer-review academic papers, published in journals such as American Journal of Public Health, Journal of Communication, Communication Research, Public Understanding of Science, Journal of Public Health, Health Communication, Communication Methods and Measures, and more. His upcoming coauthored book (Oxford University Press) on the 2020 Presidential Elections, “Democracy amid Crises: Polarization, Pandemic, Protests, & Persuasion”, will be available in January 2023.
