#696 Best Of: Seeking Oblivion - Paul's Friend Karma
A favorite episode among listeners and from the first year of the podcast (2011). How do you cope when you are convinced your life is constantly in danger as a child? First, you band together with your siblings and form an army, then you learn about the sweet oblivion of addiction. Paul’s friend Karma withholds her last name and picture so she can fully reveal the family life that nearly killed her, but ultimately forced her to grow. A fairly heavy interview so Paul throws in a little something after the interview to hopefully make you laugh.

Customer Reviews
This Podcast Delivers!
The format of this podcast is quite brilliant: part interview, part listener filled survey, it sheds non-judgmental light on our deepest fears, secrets, hopes and fantasies. Over the years Paul has become a phenomenal listener, gently guiding the conversation into deeper waters, giving the guests time to compose themselves or retreat if they need. I find myself captivated by the glimpses into people’s lives this podcast offers! I love how there’s often great chemistry between Mr Gilmartin and his guest, with silent understanding and respect for each other’s experience. This podcast has become a safe space for me, and Paul like the patient, listening, caring father mine never could be. You can expect tears of joy and compassion, incredible life stories unfolding before your eyes (ears?), white hot rage for the injustice people have to face, and lastly, hope that you don’t really have to end up alone in this world.
5/5 would recommend.
What saved me from the emptiest of moments
This podcast is a treasure. It has brought incredible comfort in some difficult times and when nothing else has made sense. Furthermore, Paul knows how to give you a laugh. This is for those who wish for an honest, open conversation about mental health and struggles as well as those who enjoy darker shades of humour.
Informative, touching, true and funny
