Changing the narrative around confidence with Lauren Currie OBE
This week's guest is: Lauren Currie OBE She is the Founder of UPFRONT; on a mission to change confidence and support one million women by 2023. Lauren is a Trustee of the Design Council and Pregnant Then Screwed. In 2017, Lauren was awarded an OBE for her services to design and diversity.
As someone who runs a community for women, I see confidence (or lack thereof) coming up often as a reason why women don’t follow through on incredible ideas and well thought out plans, I also see oppression within our system every day and so wanted to find out from Lauren how she has learned to challenge the way we live and function within a society that is not built to support women.
In this episode we cover:
Design and it’s part in entrepreneurship and innovation
Systemic oppression and how the system is broken
How we can use our position or privilege to create positive change
Why getting it wrong is inevitable
Activism in business
We explore the concept of rest and capitalism
How to take action with confidence
We hope you enjoy!

Bootstrapping to a multi-million pound business whilst navigating motherhood with Steph Douglas
This week we are joined by Steph Douglas, Founder of Don’t Buy Her Flowers.
Steph Douglas founded Don’t Buy Her Flowers in 2014, leaving her brand marketing role, to pursue an idea she had following the birth of her children.
After receiving eight bunches of flowers when she had her first baby, Steph realised the well-meaning bouquet soon lost its shine when you were the one filling vases, all while juggling a newborn and feeling overwhelmed. Steph started sending building packages to her friends who were also managing the early days of motherhood, and she saw the delight, and real emotion a thoughtful package, tailored specifically to encourage them to take a bit of time for themselves, could bring.
With a background in corporate brand marketing, Steph knew she could “sell” a product. But the journey to building a retail business was new and unnerving; despite admitting she’s never worked harder in her life, it has always felt exactly like the right path. Originally launching for new mums, the company now offers packages for all occasions, including gifts for him, workplaces, couples and more.
