    Desmond Israel, Esq. conducts research on the legal, policy, ethical, and social implications of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, global data privacy, and emerging technologies. He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in National Security and Cybersecurity from the George Washington University Law School as a GW Law Merit Scholar, where he deepened my knowledge and skills on the complex and evolving challenges of protecting data and systems in the digital age.



    With over 11 years of experience in data privacy and cybersecurity, he had led and contributed to various projects involving security incidents and events management, vulnerability management, and ISO 27001/2 compliance for clients in the banking, public, and private sectors. He has also applied my legal and technical expertise to advise and write on topics such as cross-border data flows, data protection regulations, and cybersecurity governance. His mission is to demonstrate the tangible return on cybersecurity and data privacy investments by improving the security posture and state of mind of businesses and organizations.

In April 2021, Edgerton was selected from a pool of 845 applications from 328 institutions to be a Harry S. Truman scholar. He also serves as a civic engagement coordinator for the Howard University Student Association and as president of the Howard University Speech and Debate Team. He was named a Global Scholar and elected student council representative for the Council on International Education Exchange during his time abroad in Spain, Italy and England.Edgerton is an aspiring civil rights attorney who will attend the Howard University School of Law. He has dedicated his life to service and community action. An aspiring multi-vocational change agent, he believes that it is our duty as a nation to build up every child from every background.
