The three questions that every new dealmaker asks

The three questions that every new dealmaker asks

Hello this is Jonathan Jay - and welcome to episode 144 of the Business Buying Strategies podcast.
Now I’m conscious that our listeners cover a wide spectrum - ranging from experienced dealmakers at one end, and people who have yet to put their first business acquisition together at the other.
This week, I want to focus on the less experienced group - the ones that are new to dealmaking, and who need support to get started.
Last year I ran a webinar where I answered the three questions that every new dealmaker asks me:
How do you go about valuing a business? How do you finance an acquisition? How do you find the experts that will help you get a deal over the line?

This week, I want you to meet Brendan Cullen, who owns a business in the automotive sector, and has recently made his first acquisition, having bought one of his competitors. I started by asking Brendan whether he felt on Cloud 9 now that his first acquisition was behind him.

    Private Client Series: Richard Bundock

Hello this is Jonathan Jay - and welcome to episode 142 of the Business Buying Strategies podcast.
This week, we meet Richard Bundock, another of my private clients. I asked Richard about what made him consider acquiring a business, rather than starting one and growing it organically. As you’ll hear from his answer, it quickly became apparent that he’d tried the ’start and grow’ strategy around twelve years ago, and had found it hard work.

Interview with recent dealmaker Phil Hunt

Interview with recent dealmaker Phil Hunt

Hello this is Jonathan Jay - and welcome to episode 141 of the Business Buying Strategies podcast.
This week, I was delighted to catch up online with one of my private clients, Phil Hunt. Now Phil has a full time job as HR Director of a city bank in London, but that hasn’t stopped him from following the Dealmakers Academy programme and making his first two acquisitions.

Phil has recently acquired two hairdressing salons - and here he is introducing himself, and explaining how the first acquisition came about.

    Kiddicare Founder Neville Wright

    Kiddicare Founder Neville Wright

Hello this is Jonathan Jay - and welcome to episode 140 of the Business Buying Strategies podcast.
This week, we return to the very first episode of the podcast, where I met up with Neville Wright, the founder of Kiddicare, a children’s and nursery retailer, which he sold to Morrissons in 2011 for £70m.

Before it was acquired, Kiddicare was the largest privately owned online retailer of its kind - So I was keen to find out from Neville how the deal came about.

Great content - Sound a big challenge

Hi - I’m loving this - new to me podcast- really interesting interview. However I am struggling to hear them. Is use podcasts all the time while out exercising, only this one is proving a challenge to hear and it’s one I really want to listen to carefully, pause my watch occasionally to think and resume. Any plans to sort the sound?
