Episode Summary
Kirck started his journey within the cannabis space in 2016 when he entered a business competition at Kingston University where he studied Law and Business. His partner in the competition introduced him to Hemp by showing him a video of hempcrete being made and he was instantly blown away.Kirck and his business partner came 2nd place out of 35 other teams and took their business idea forward into the real world, starting Amberstalk.Amberstalk sustainably source hemp products from trusted UK and European hemp farmers, manufacturers and suppliers, producing other products from seeds, oils and powders.Hemp seeds contain a perfect balance of Omega 3 and 6 in a 3:1 ratio. Omegas have been shown to be able to lower blood pressure, boost your memory, protect the heart and blood vessels from disease and may help alleviate depression.Hemp seed oil is composed of nearly 85 percent essential fatty acids (EFAs) alone and offers the richest, most balanced natural source of EFAs.Hemp seed oil contains the optimal 1:4 ratio of omega-3 to 6 required for body consumption and use. This perfect balance cannot be found in fish.Hemp seeds are a great protein source, as more than 25% of their total calories are from high-quality protein.About 25% of calories in hemp seeds come from protein, which is relatively high.Hemp oil is cold pressed from a hemp seed, and can be green or gold depending on the amount of pressure which is forced on the seed. Hempcrete is a mixture of binder (normally limestone), hemp hurds (shives) and water. When mixed together, it creates a wood like mixture which resembles weetabix. You can build an entire home from 1-2 acres of hemp.Hempcrete is great for carbon sequestration, absorbing and storing carbon dioxide which is stored within the material, hardening it and trapping heat. Hemp can be used to make biofuels (the term given to fuels made from plants), called bioethanol and biodiesel. It can also be used as a fuel in a biomass power plant.Burning hemp at high temperatures results in a substance similar to graphene and could potentially be used as an alternative in the future. Hemp is also very conductive.Hemp plants have incredibly long roots and are often used as a rotational crop, grown before tobacco is planted as is creates an intricate growth system underground.Phytoremediation is the way in which the hemp plant removes toxins like heavy metals and chemicals out of the soil and groundwater. This isn’t exclusive to the hemp plant, but contributes to some of the ways in which hemp can help to save the planet.
