Cliffhanger vs Vertical Limit: Part 1

Cliffhanger vs Vertical Limit: Part 1

Strap your harness on and join us for today’s mountanside melee! First up, Sylvester Stallone searches for the Mountain of Youth amidst pangs of regret and machine gun fire - it’s 1993’s Cliffhanger!
A truly harrowing opener is followed by a tiresome trudge, but at least we’re entertained by some bafflingly expensive stunts and some of the worst hostage negotiations we’ve ever seen. Hold on!

Withnail and I vs Sideways: Part 2

Withnail and I vs Sideways: Part 2

We’re raising another glass to our next vineyard vacation, as Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church test the audience’s ability to root for wholly dislikable characters in 2004 Oscar nod, Sideways!
Their nuanced take on an introspective trip through Californian wine country makes for a crisp, fruity affair - with notes of surprising unease! But how does it stack up against Monday’s pod favourite, Withnail and I?

Withnail and I vs Sideways: Part 1

We're toasting to bitter hopes of success this week, as these films' respective lads on tour take completely different paths to fuzzy introspection.
First up is a true cult classic that may earn a place in the Clashpod Hall of Fame. Plucked from the melancholic mind of Bruce Robinson, it's Withnail and I!

Sketchy-d ,

Treat your ears

Well well, Clash of the Titles, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. When looking for a new podcast youve got to ask yourself, Do I feel lucky, well the moment you hear Alex’s delightful introduction your left thinking, You had me at hello. I gobble up the information offered, As God as my witness, I’ll never be hungry again. But wait a minute you aint heard nothing yet. The vastness of the teams knowledge makes the show so engaging and welcoming and theres no place like home. Having to subscribe to a number of channels to stream all the things has hurt my wallet but Frankley my dear I dont give a damn its the stuff dreams are made of. Even though I realise the films I loved as a child are actually rubbish, I have to admit sometimes you cant handle the truth. As for the films I get to discover, well my mother said lifes like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get. A truely wonderful pod that makes me think, I’m king of the world and I know I’ll be back, after all tomorrow is another day.

Godfather & Godfather II

I know I’m late to the party but these eps really struck a chord with me. Especially Vicky’s comments about how II was like an immersive experience for her. The story is great of course but I totally get how the best movies just make you want to escape to the worlds they create. You were spot on! 100%. The other movie world I’d go to is Amity Island - yes, I am a Jaws obsessive… but unlike Alex I can’t accept that Pippit/Pippet/Pippen gets eaten. The piece of wood floating on the surface is different from the one her owner throws and there’s even a dog in the background as Brody runs across the bridge after the estuary attack.
But whatever, love the podcast and thankfully my wife got me to listen saying “You’re a movie nerd, this is right up your street!”
Keep on keeping on.

Best pod EVER!

I endured my sister Lucy banging on about this podcast for months before I finally caved and started to listen. Now its my favourite podcast and I’m the one recommending it to all of my friends. It’s made my watch list incredibly long but its worth it for all the great insights and banter on the pod! I miss wearing a mask to hide my smirk around campus as I listen, although I might avoid the Truman Show episode to prevent flashbacks to my English exams. Love the pod, thanks for all the good vibes.
