Elon Musk is one of the most powerful men in the world. He's a billionaire, the founder of SpaceX, Tesla and more. To his followers, he's a hero; to his critics, a far-right rabble rouser. But for someone so public, there’s one part of his life that’s less well known. Elon’s Spies investigates how this free-speech champion uses private investigators and surveillance to target everyone from whistleblowers at his companies, to online critics and people in his own life. Episode 1 is available on Tuesday 8th October, with episodes releasing weekly. Tortoise has gone down the pan

I’ve previously thoroughly enjoyed all the Tortoise Investigates podcasts especially Pig Iron, Hoaxed and the one about the Tavistock. Elon’s Spies is not upto the same calibre, far from it. It is quite clearly a political hit piece. All the same obsessive bogus stuff about the political right you get on legacy media. If you haven’t followed all the stuff they talk about in episode 4 in real time like I have, you’ll think you’re being told facts but it is opinion twisted around some facts to suit a narrative. I’m switching off from this podcast and won’t be revisiting Tortoise again. No one needs to be so blatantly lied to, we already get that from TV and newspapers.
A hit piece
22 Oct
A hit piece on Musk that is politically motivated. Listened to the first one and lost interest. It’s weak and who cares if the world’s richest man has private detectives.
Essential listening
10 Sept
Yet another thoughtful, sensitive, and thorough investigation by Tortoise — who are quickly becoming my favourite podcasting co. Truly eye-opening stuff on a very pressing matter that is shaping our world without many of us even realising it.
