Eustace Chapuys, Imperial Ambassador and window to the court of Henry VIII.
Eustace Chapuys was a key diplomat who served Charles V as Imperial ambassador to England from 1529 until 1545. Due to the extraordinarily long time in this post, Chapuys is best known for his extensive and detailed correspondence from the court of King Henry VIII. A firm supporter of Katherine of Aragon and Princess Mary, he was famously a staunch opponent of Anne Boleyn, often simply referring to her as the concubine, but what was Chapuys wider story? Where did he come from, how did he end up in England and can all of his insight and intelligence be taken as fact?
