    On the 7th January 1536 Katherine of Aragon, formally queen of England, died at Kimbolton Castle at the age of fifty. Having arrived in England at the age of just fifteen, she would call it home for more than twice the amount of time she spent in her native Spain. Her former husband, King Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn, celebrated, whilst the common people and a great many of the nobility privately mourned their loss, so, what were the final days of Katherines life like? How did she die? Where is she buried and is there any truth in the often repeated story that Henry and Anne wore yellow as a sign of respect for her passing?

From talks to tours, light displays and even a commemoration to Katherine with representatives from Rome involved, its a spectacular event and one that has been going on, surprisingly, for literally hundreds of years in one way or another! From very well known figures such as Empress Matilda and Elizabeth of York, to characters seldom explored or discussed, including a medieval princess who pleaded with her father to be able to lose her virginity and to another who appeared completely naked before the entire court to prove she did not suffer from leprosy.     Despite relatively humble beginnings, Rafe Sadler became a key English statesman, who served Henry VIII as a Privy Councillor, before becoming Secretary of State and also ambassador to the court in Scotland. Rafe Sadler would then go on to serve Edward VI and was even one of the signatories of the kings device for the succession which catapulted Jane Grey onto the throne. Rafe would go on to bigger and better things under the last of the Tudor monarchs, Elizabeth I, but the man himself is a figure from history seldom explored, so who actually was he? Just how did a young man, part of Thomas Cromwell’s retinue end up being such a central figure at three of the Tudor monarchs royal courts?
