    Faith in Parents #64 | Parenting Through The Stages: 3's & 4's

    Faith in Parents #64 | Parenting Through The Stages: 3's & 4's

Ed and special guests Victoria, Jennifer, Dex and Julie discuss the opportunities as well as the challenges that abound when kids are 3 and 4 years old. 3's and 4's are sociable, full of energy and love routine. They are just beginning to grasp concepts like sin, forgiveness, and boundaries. How do we encourage our children to develop and learn to regulate their emotions at a stage when they largely believe that they are the centre of the universe? We model it! Being a parent demands huge patience, and by growing in this area ourselves, we model to our children how they can grow as well. We often get it wrong as parents, and we should apologise to our children for this and genuinely ask for forgiveness, not just pretend that we are already perfect.

Jennifer shares this as a golden takeaway nugget... "Talking less and listening more - let your children tell you things... like say for example Bible stories at night, my children say 'mummy are we having storytime tonight or storytelling?' We've started doing storytelling - they love it more because they are now telling us stories. I will tell them a story... it's not always Christian but most often times it is, then they'll start telling me the story of David and Goliath, it's furthering their walk with the Lord, it's literacy and it's special bonding time. What's important for parents is to put away your phones, turn the telly off, be present with your children, play with them, go kick a ball with them outside. Even if you really don't feel like it and you're tired, try and find that energy to give your child more of yourself personally."
If this podcast encourages you as you disciple your kids, please do send this episode to a parent you think would appreciate it - maybe drop it into a WhatsApp group for your church's mums/dads/carers group, with something you found encouraging from the episode.

Faith in Parents #61 | Jesus' Big Family (how to be a better parent)

In this episode, Ed and Amy chat through the teaching passage from Titus on how Jesus' shows us God's kindness and means that we are eternally 'in' Jesus' big family photo. They discuss how this truth can shape your parenting and what this says to the 'angels' and the 'rascals' as well as the 'hippy' and 'pushy' parents. Faith in Parents #60 | Ed, John & a Fun-Sized Mars Bar

    Faith in Parents #60 | Ed, John & a Fun-Sized Mars Bar

Ed and his brother, John, reflect on their own upbringing and how they were parented, and the lessons and encouragements from that. Apparently John stopped being mothered from the age of 11, and feels differently about what qualifies as a luxury, especially when it comes to fun-sized Mars bars.

Great stuff

As a parent of five 8-and-under age children, this is required listening for helping them to understand that the bible is all about Jesus and his lordship over all of our lives. Ed and Jam are full of helpful, practical, encouraging advice to read the bible together as a family, even when it's really hard work. This podcast will help every Christian parent who seeks to shepherd their children and prepare them for the future.
