First-time mum to premature twins at 40: How Psychologist Cristina handled conflicting emotions and the unique challenge of raising multiples | S3E33

The NICU Space by Miracle Moon

Our guest, Cristina became a first-time mother at 40 – to premature twins. Even with her doctorate in psychology, she wasn’t prepared for the conflicting emotions and mental challenges she faced, not just during pregnancy but after she took her babies home, too. The lack of support she received inspired her to focus on helping other parents through the same experience. In today’s conversation, there is a strong focus and open discussion about “negative” emotions and why they are so normal and expected, and also why there really isn’t a perfect way to be a parent!

So if you’re a parent of multiples, or sometimes feel shame about the emotions that come up for you, this chat with Cristina will help to reassure you that you’re not alone in the way you might be feeling.

In this episode, we’re chatting about:

  • Becoming a first time mother of premature twins at 40 and all the struggles that came with that
  • Differences between parenting multiples vs singletons and the opposing emotions that often come with it
  • Letting go of the idea that there is a perfect way to be a parent
  • Learning to embrace your emotions and why staying calm is the most important thing
