Nancy Brophy fills her novels with romantic betrayals and murder. It’s a far cry from her quiet life in the suburbs, where she and her chef husband, Dan, are living out their golden years. But when Dan is shot dead, Nancy finds herself at the center of a murder case that could be ripped from the pages of her novels. From Wondery, this is a story about what happens when the line blurs between fiction and reality. Listen to Happily Never After: Dan and Nancy on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts. Well told but wrong tone
19 Jun
Really engaging and gripping. But the tone and theme tune is off. It’s all too jolly, like ‘haha this is wild, coz she’s such an unlikely killer’. If HE’D killed HER, I have no doubt this series would strike a drastically different tone.
Interesting

But I’m really not sure about this. ***spoilers*** It’s pretty obvious where the investigation is going in this case but the police and the podcaster seem to assume guilt from a very early stage with little evidence. Ultimately the case comes down to this. A gun which wasn’t the murder weapon. The barrel of a gun which was never found. Some insurance policies. And some slightly odd behaviour. I’m not saying she was innocent, she may not be, but I don’t feel the prosecution made a solid case nor that this would have led to conviction in other countries and I wouldn’t be surprised if the appeal is won. As for the quality of the podcast? Because of what is pretty weak material, it feels spread thin and weak.
Weirdly perky
3 Jul
Agree with the other reviews, why is it so upbeat and perky with scenes read from her books when it’s about a premeditated execution? This isn’t a fun wacky story like the music and narration style would suggest. Wrong tone and it’s all about her whilst mostly ignoring the victim
Not sure
9 Jun
podcast isn’t bad but it’s a little upbeat and jazzy considering someone died, host sounds like she’s doing voice acting for a commercial rather than describing a murder
