EP099.5 – 3 of the Best MSP Secrets with Ian Luckett

EP099.5 – 3 of the Best MSP Secrets with Ian Luckett

Before I unfold my 100th podcast, I bring you a special wrap-up of three of the best IT Experts Podcast Episodes over the last six months.

Perhaps you might be thinking why is it 99.5 that comes before a hundredth? However, as always, I want to make sure that our listening community gets the best bang for your earbuds!

With that, Stuart and I are happy to announce that our 100th is going live in our Facebook Group – Scale With Confidence a specific Facebook group for IT and MSP business owners who want to scale and grow to a million, and if you are already a million, get to five faster.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity, join in now and ask us your mind-boggling questions!

In this special episode, one thing is certain, I cannot reach it this far if not with the help of the people I have massive respect for, and great friends Richard Tubb, Ben Spector, and Paul Green.

As we go through this episode, we reflect on their best insights into the field they are in and the topics that are worth taking notes on and acting on.

Kicking off this energy-filled episode, I am with the legend, Richard Tubb in Episode 86, recalling how he started his business journey. Definitely an inspiring discussion on how he became a successful author, speaker, and writer in the MSP industry after he sold his MSP business. A part where you will know what it takes to have a Mindset Magic that will help you harness your ambition.

I bet you should not miss how we talked about something uncomfortable for most MSP owners but it will absolutely help in becoming a better one. Certainly, this episode should be on top of your priorities when you want to grow, be better and get that right business mindset.

In the next section of the model, Amplifying your capacity, we cover your Vision, strength, processes, and systems, and in Episode 89 the great Ben Spector is one of my favorites.

Stepping out of your comfort zone is at times underrated, but in this discussion, Ben highlighted his career experiences from being both an employer and an employee. At the center of it is a total recall of how systems and processes interact as we give you these value-laden discussions. How ‘Process Paralysis’ takes place and what to do in order to manage it.

Surely, an inspiring episode on how not to worry about the hustle and bustle of MSP SOPs, systems, and implementations as Ben and I got you.

Down to the third best-picked, I am with an amazing friend and MSP Marketing Expert, Paul Green. In his seven-year MSP journey, he helped us understand MSP marketing trends in 2022. Episode 78 allows us to realize the importance of maximizing capacity, center customers, and how difficult it is to get MSPs into marketing.

You should not miss how Paul talked about Marketing Tactics and Strategies in order to actualize ‘No leads to Lead Flow’ in your MSP business.

Unlike most wrap-ups, this is not the end of an era but only the beginning of a new and better one – the thing we always work on. I hope these three are in your favorites too! Then one thing, never miss out and keep an ear on our 100th Episode.

I hope you enjoyed not just these top three favourite lists but every episode we give out as the whole IT Experts team enjoyed creating every single thing of it.

EP099 – The MSP Journey with Stuart Warwick & Ian Luckett

EP099 – The MSP Journey with Stuart Warwick & Ian Luckett

With everything that’s going on, this Episode will remind and get us through what it takes to grow and improve your MSP. As a kickstart, I moderated the conversation by letting Stuart express the importance of why they really need to be curious about what the journey looks like.

Moving forward, the Scale with Confidence formula is unfolded. Particularly, in the Three Pillars or phases, one must be patient and good enough to work with.

Firstly, we had a comprehensive discussion on what the first phase – Survive Phase is all about and what one should focus to do in that phase. Stuart explained what this phase is defined, how it is driven, and how should an individual think about showing up.

Since then, we have been banking on the value of mindset, so I asked Stuart what then a healthy mindset looks like. This part is something you should never miss out on since he revealed two important realities that you are about to face and what you should do to prevent this or get out of this when you are already in.

In the second phase which is the Drive Phase, I and Stuart agreed on the significant impact of how the structure side matters. Here, are areas to step into or away from being discussed, and what really is the MSP Journey all about.

Before going deep into the last phase, we never forget to talk about a special ingredient – Leadership. The Thrive and Arrive Phase on the last pillar is something you should also greatly look into. Stuart had a thorough discussion on real tipping points and how leadership affects this phase. Its processes, skills, and ways to enter this phase.

Wrapping up this Episode, we laid our inputs on how we really apply this model to the MSP journey as a process and how you can easily reach out through our channels.

I hope you enjoyed this episode, as much as Stuart and I enjoyed recording this, and the whole IT Experts team enjoyed creating it.

EP098 – Why I Should Use Events In My MSP Marketing with Peter Davies & Ian Luckett

EP098 – Why I Should Use Events In My MSP Marketing with Peter Davies & Ian Luckett

I’m a massive fan of events and it is with great pleasure that Pete and I had a conversation on how it’s done, what are the necessary things to consider, and also where do I start

Definitely, no one could ever lead us through this conversation but Peter Davies. He is the head of managed services sales from Angel Business Communications. A long-time traditional publisher who has been in IT services for 25 years and holding IT events for 23 years. Pete is best known for running and supporting big events, like the Managed Services Summit, which makes this episode even more exciting.

Pete and I started by really getting into knowing what event strategies should an MSP Marketing team consider. Knowing why it is important to always ensure correct planning to ensure its success and why we need to use events in the first place

We also shared our views on the importance of building great relationships with peers, vendors, and suppliers in every matter.

Pete agreed with me, that sometimes hosting events can be daunting. Pete then emphasised the important things to establish first, before selling a product.

The C-word to make in order to find better opportunities and have better outcomes.

As we talked about things to do, we also shared an important list of NOT to do’s, especially if you are still starting to find meaningful engagements or establish something in an event.

Pete then wrapped up by sharing the key things to look for to make sure the events are really valuable for everybody, whether for the vendor or seller – making sure inclusivity.

At the heart of this episode, I believe the best way to wrap up is by a shameless plug.

Check out what events they are working on, either online or physical meetings.

Pete and I are excited and looking forward to these events and you can book on to the Managed Services Summit in September, here: - - https://managedservicessummit.com/

I hope you enjoyed this episode, as much as Pete and I enjoyed recording this, and the whole IT Experts team enjoyed creating it.

EP097 - Being Open, Honest, and Real with Ian Luckett & Phylip Morgan

EP097 - Being Open, Honest, and Real with Ian Luckett & Phylip Morgan

It has been a pleasure talking with Phylip in Episode 094, about his life-changing event as he battled Tuberculosis. This time, I couldn’t think of anyone that I can do it with, except Phylip Morgan himself. This is definitely a perfect balance of laughter and tears, as we just get along without any piece of script or pre-prepared questions.

Initially, Phylip enabled me to start with and talk about that one life-changing event that happened between me and my wife, Wendy. This is something I never talked about in public but has an integral part in me, especially in how I’ve dealt with these challenges with our son for the past 22 years. It was then I talked about what happened to us that changed our lives forever.

For Phylip, the kickstart is a real up-to-date talk about a part of my life.

As we go along, Phylip emphasized the unavoidable highs and lows in life, and he gave me an avenue to express how me and my wife reacted and faced the diagnosis of our son Daniel. With that, firstly I was able to recall two unforgettable moments of how Epilepsy happens so randomly.  Then I talked about how we came about with the best decision, that impacted Daniel’s growth and also us. A tipping point, in the word – acceptance.

Phylip then opened a bit about how he handled and went through his father’s health condition, which led me to share how me and my wife, as a couple, continued with this lifetime situation we are in. It was a total recall of the struggles, rejections, and differences we faced together prioritising Daniel’s needs, and how I fought for them. Also, the part where I talked about what gives me more drive to continue despite someone or something stopping me, even in the world of my business or with the work we do with the MSPs.

As we talked about how we are being motivated, Phylip allowed me to get back into some moments where I was still in the corporate world and the encounter I had with a random man. A reminder of how me and Stuart managed and get along with our business and the different clients we face every day.

Lastly, Phylip asked me to give some advice to the people who experienced the same personal and business struggles I have.

As we wrap the episode, Phylip commended how everyone should relate to starting really with a great team, as he talks about one of the books that got him hooked. From there, we then had the time to talk about what we see in the five years ahead of us, as a father and someone hustling in the business we have.

I really do hope you did not just enjoy this episode but were able to get some real important work-life lessons, because as much as Phylip and I enjoyed recording this, and the whole IT Experts team enjoyed creating it.

EP096 – Channel Partners Europe – Leadership Keynote with Ian Luckett

EP096 – Channel Partners Europe – Leadership Keynote with Ian Luckett

The Channel Partners Europe was a two-day event that happened on the 14th and 15th of June 2022. As the tech channel is at a turning point now where it’s already embracing a post-pandemic world, this event by the Channel Partners Events, showcased innovation, drove digital transformation, and provided all the channel insights and education an IT & MSP owner needs all under one roof.

It was a great event where more than 500 MSPs, resellers, and vendors networked and discussed business best practices, pivotal issues, and market opportunities. It was also jam-packed with presentations and speeches from 50+ channel leaders and experts in the IT & MSP space.

In summary, the golden keys to building great teams are:

Shared Company Vision, Mission, and Values Business Wide KPIs and Connected Team Targets Team Self-Awareness – Knowing Each Other Individual Appraisals, Target Setting, and Accountability Measured Employee Engagement Correct Reward and Recognition

I discussed and explained them one by one, the critical key points they come with, and why they are the golden keys to unlocking the potential and performance of your people without spending a penny.

I also briefly talked about why leadership is important for an MSP owner to grow and scale their business confidently, the Shadow of the Leader, and how a DISC profile can help you be a great and confident MSP business leader.

Wrapping up my keynote presentation, I shared a cheat sheet of this keynote where attendees and listeners can get a hold of the golden keys that I discussed in this keynote presentation.

The Channel Partners Europe is one of the many events that we attended and will be attending this year, as you can see, we do love events. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoy sharing it with you.

EP095 – Getting Serious About Cyber Resilience with Greg Jones & Ian Luckett

EP095 – Getting Serious About Cyber Resilience with Greg Jones & Ian Luckett

We skip the formal introductions and go straight to business talking about cyber resilience. I express that when the pandemic happened there have been lots of cyber-attacks and I ask Greg what he thinks about the threat landscape of the whole cyber resilience thing. We both discuss the severity of it and whether or not MSPs should take it seriously.

Personally, Greg thinks that MSPs are aware of the threat, but are just confused about how to take the first step in their cyber resilience journey. It is also a daunting thing that even Datto, a big organisation in the channel, is also daunted by it.

We then talked about Greg’s step-by-step tips on how MSPs start with cyber resiliency. Greg says that the first tip he can give is to not rush in buying technology to try and just address cyber resiliency. Planning and conducting a review is an important first step.

Start with your people, then with your processes. Look at the gaps and then take care of the technology.

Then we continued to tackle getting the right messaging of cyber resilience to two different types of avatars, the people who want it because they are aware of the risks that are there, and the people who are aware but not enough to care because it has never happened to them. Greg then talks about the different options on how to position the messaging to the different set avatars. Some of the options that Greg mentions and explains are using the fear factor and training and education.

We also talk about how MSPs being negligent when their clients get breached. Greg says that although it can depend on disclaimers, it’s still about thinking about what the right thing is to do.

The biggest risk to an organisation is the human element, regardless of what technology it is using for cyber resilience. And a vast amount of this risk can be addressed with good training and education.

Greg and I then discuss cyber insurance. Personally, Greg believes that businesses in the next few years will be required by law to carry cyber insurance because it’s just too big a risk for the economy. We also weigh in on the topic about should or should not MSPs be regulated as a business.

To wrap up the episode, we talk about how important it is to build a relationship with your vendor and how vendors like Datto really help MSPs grow their business other than just providing solutions.

I hope you enjoyed this episode. I recommend you listen to this episode as many times as you can to get all the value that you can get so you can too, start with the first in your cyber resilience journey.
