Leaders in Cleantech #115 - Stephen Robinson - Fully Charged Recruitment
What’s it all about?
Talent. Jim Collins said, ‘Great vision without great people is irrelevant’. Something I firmly
believe and it’s why I created Hyperion Executive Search, and more recently, along with Stephen
Robinson, and the Fully Charged Show, Fully Charged Recruitment. We talk about Steve’s
background and experience, and delve into some of the talent issues faced by cleantech companies hiring, and by those who want to work in the sector, but don’t currently.
About Stephen Robinson:
Based in Liverpool, Stephen is the Managing Director of Fully Charged Recruitment Ltd. With over a decade of experience hiring in the global energy, automotive and cleantech sectors, Stephen has a wealth of experience building and leading teams across the UK and Middle East. For the past 6
years, Stephen has specifically been driving our growth in the EV and Future Mobility sector,
becoming a ‘go to’ for companies looking to expand their teams across Europe and North America. He now leads Fully Charged Recruitment, building teams across not just emobility but across the clean energy and mobility transitions.
About Fully Charged Recruitment:
Created to help Cleantech companies to find exceptional talent, and exceptional talent to find
awesome Cleantech careers. A partnership between the Hyperion Cleantech Group and the Fully
Charged Show. We have decades of experience in the clean energy and clean mobility sectors, and
a network that is second to none.
Fully Charged Recruitment helps our clients to recruit roles across all disciplines and job functions in the Mid to Senior sector (Our sister company Hyperion Executive Search hires at C-Suite, VP and
Heads of… Levels).
We were born of a simple and shared mission. Both Hyperion Cleantech Group and Fully Charged Show share a passion to drive the clean mobility and clean energy transitions. We believe through education and entertainment, and through supporting Cleantech companies to scale, and talented individuals to find impactful, meaningful and important work, we can play our part in these transitions.
If you are a cleantech company looking to scale and hire outstanding talent, or if you are that talent looking for guidance and the right career opportunity, contact one of the team.

Leaders in Cleantech #114 - James Johnston - Piclo
What’s it all about?
Flexibility. Not Yoga, but the essential tools to enable the energy transition. Too often renewable assets, energy storage and EV charging at mass are help back due to grid blockages and constraints. Flexibility in the system is required to unlock some of these blockages. We talk grid flexibility, international expansion and the road from PhD to Entrepreneur with Piclo CEO and Co-Founder James Johnston.
About James Johnston:
James Johnston is the CEO and Co-founder of Piclo, the world’s leading independent grid flexibility marketplace. Prior to Piclo, James spent 3 years researching microgrids at University of Strathclyde. James is also the founder of Solar Sketch, a design company for the solar industry and worked at international engineering firm Arup. James is a published author contributing chapters to Academic Press books on peer-to-peer energy and local flexibility trading.
About Piclo:
Piclo Flex is a leading independent marketplace that brings together Flex Providers with System Operators to procure local flexibility services.
As our energy systems become cleaner, more distributed and diversified in response to the climate crisis, our grids come under more stress and face challenges in maintaining the delicate balance of supply and demand.
Our marketplace enables technologies such as renewables, batteries and electric vehicles to provide local flexibility to our distribution networks, smoothing out the complex transition to a decarbonised future and delivering low-cost and resilient grids.

Such a great deep dive
This no-frills pod features an all-star lineup of the best minds in clean technology. It is like eavesdropping on the most interesting pub conversation that you’ve ever stumbled across.
Make sure you’ve got a pad of paper handy because you are going to want to scribble down quotes and book recommendations galore.
Fascinating
Not my usual choice in podcasts but I am impressed. I listened on the recommendation of a trusted friend and I have not been let down.
The stand out? Not just an interviewer asking questions but an interviewer with vast experience of the topic so that the podcast quickly becomes a conversation between two experts. That’s quite an achievement!
Second stand out? The style is entertaining and detailed enough to be engaging without being too deep in the weeds as to leave the “newbie” confused and reaching for the off button!
In a world of podcast choice “Leaders in Cleantech” should be on your subscribed list!
Great podcast no matter your experience in CleanTech
