Say Why To Drugs
The internet is full of misinformation about recreational drugs - both legal and illegal. Dr Suzi Gage, a psychologist interested in understanding associations between substance use and mental health, tackles one substance per episode - providing information about what we know - the harms, but also potential benefits of these substances. There's no hype, no spin and no judgement, just information. In the first series, she is in conversation with rapper Scroobius Pip. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
More kids need to hear this!

Excellent well balanced series that does aim to frighten or glamorous drugs. Maybe if this was taught in PCSE sessions or whatever that are called now kids would listen...
Dreadful

Just listened to the alcohol in pregnancy episode and it’s frankly depressing to hear three female academics who seem unable to separate their moral judgements from their research interests. Essentially, the message of this episode is that British people are weird because they drink too much and why is it so hard for women to just abstain for nine months because, well, I did it? There is a reason why this topic is approached with caution by health professionals and suggesting that even one alcoholic drink can cause damage to an unborn baby will cause pregnant women to just feel guilt and shame. Don’t women have enough of that already? Comparing FASD to domestic violence is absurd, the incidence of DV is many magnitudes greater than that of damage to children's brains caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol. If you’re pregnant, go to your health professional for balanced advice on this topic and give this moralising nonsense a swerve.
Lost its way

I was a big fan of this podcast, true drug information is much needed, but I’ve unfortunately had to unsubscribe as I don’t like the way this podcast has transitioned into another vanity project. I’m a subscriber to all the Distraction Pieces Network shows, and Say Why has just morphed into a wannabe carbon copy of Stop and Search. There are ways that Say Why could stay relevant and stay on-point with science, which is what Suzi is great at, but the latest instalments have strayed so far from the original premise and I don’t think it’s to Dr Gage’s strengths. Leave the heartfelt chats and social issues to the other drug podcasts and keep focus on the science.
Thank you
