177 - Player Profile: George Knudson w/ Lorne Rubenstein
A new sub-series of podcasts for 2023, we take a look at the iconic ball striker George Knudson, famed for his debonair looks on the course and zen-like control when playing he was a fascinating character. Described by Jack Nicklaus as having ‘a million dollar swing and a ten cent putter’, George Knudson is Canadian Golfer who simply adored his craft. Lorne Rubenstein who co-authored the book ‘The Natural Golf Swing’ with George brilliantly captured his career and persona in this podcast.
We’ll be doing more player profiles throughout the year taking names from history who have fascinating stories to share, or do not get the recognition they perhaps deserve.

176: 'The Tie' with Henry Shrimp & Walker Simas
Sam & Tom speak to Henry and Walker. A four way chat with two fellow podcasters: The Tie began in 2021 by two collegiate players Henry & Walker who shared a deep love for the game. Not just the competitive elements of the Tour and high ranking Amateur events, but also Course Architecture and the cultural side of the game. This is a beast of an episode. Before Christmas, Sam was a guest on their show talking about some trips in England on a shoestring budget and we were curious what $1,000 would get you for a trip round the Carolinas! Stand by for some really surprising picks. We also talk about the collegiate golf scene, podcasting and growing a presence in a world awash with golf podcasts.

175: Jim Hartsell - When Revelation Comes
Jim joins the podcast this week to talk about his recent book: When Revelation Comes. The book is a story about his travels through Scotland following the tragic death of his son Jordan. Jim is one of the leading authorities on West Coast golf in Scotland, and the various nine hole / honesty box courses that seem to have been walked into existence over recent centuries.
The book is hugely emotional, uplifting, and interesting, as well as being a great read on golf travel to some of the more remote corners of Scotland. Listeners can get 20% off this book by using code: '20OFF' at backninepress.com so head on over and make sure you get a copy of this for yourself!

174: Valentine’s Day Chit-Chat
A rambling chatter between Sam & Tom on their golf, their own goals this year, the recent WM Phoenix Open, the upcoming Full Swing series over on Netflix and more. This one lacks structure, and substance, but apart from that it’s great!

173 - Course Diaries: Kennemer Golf & Country Club
Short bonus course diaries for you this week! Sam sat down with Christiaan & Lucas from Kennemer. Christiaan is a long standing member and current chairman of greens, and Lucas is the head greenkeeper. It's a good chat following on from our conversation with Cees back at Eindhoven about sustainable greenkeeping, encouraging finer grasses to grow and the transition work that the two have embarked on.
If you haven't checked it out yet, head on over to youTube to see our latest film from our Netherlands Series in partnership with Footjoy, from Kennemer. 27 holes, with a fascinating history!

Great listen
I’m new to cookie jar golf, but just listened to the DI Piehowski interview, great listen 👍👍
Best British golf podcast by miles
Love the Cookie Jar Golf podcast. The range of guests and subject matter, coupled with the guys’ humour, deep knowledge and love of the game, makes this essential listening for all golf nuts, tragics and addicts. So glad that we have a team that celebrates British golf and all that sail in it!
Worth a listen
For an avid golfer it’s worth a listen. I enjoy the fact that it is British centric and they do get some very interesting guests on, however overall it can only demand a mid ranking review. The hosts seem like passable blokes but it does at time verge on the cringe in terms of their back-slapping banter and half-baked, uninformed takes on various golfing topics. They seem like the guys at the club where a little knowledge is a bad thing, the self proclaimed “golf tragics” who aren’t actually that informed as they’d like to believe. Ultimately it’s an average attempt at a UK No Laying Up (the intro itself says a lot). As I say, worth a listen, but not a must listen.
