The pill, HRT, and medical gaslighting, with Kate Muir

Have you ever used some form of hormonal contraception? Kate Muir, documentary maker, investigative journalist and women's health expert, joins Liz to share what the contraceptive pill is really doing to our health - from our sex drive to our mood.
Inside this episode, Kate shares what prompted her concerns about the pill, and why more attention should be paid to the synthetic hormones commonly used in this type of contraception - just like the push for body identical HRT (hormone replacement therapy) for midlife women.
Liz and Kate discuss the mental health outcomes of female contraceptives such as the pill, the coil and the injection, plus talk through why women don't actually need to take a break from their contraception for a bleed (despite being told otherwise!)

Avoid the anti-ageing trap, with Dr Lubna Khan-Salim

Want in on the secrets to healthy and glowing skin in midlife? Dr Lubna Khan-Salim joins Liz to share why beauty isn't about being wrinkle-free, but more about retaining strength, vitality and suppleness.
Lubna, a surgeon specialising in cosmetic aesthetics, discusses why, like Liz does too, she loathes the term anti-ageing, what changes you might notice in your skin in menopause, plus why you should nourish your body from within before considering tweakments.
The episode also puts the lens on new skincare treatments, beauty bio-hacking and epigenetics, and why social media skincare trends such as ‘glass skin’ might be doing more harm than good for our complexions.

Just love you Liz

Hi Liz

Thank you so much for your balanced , informative, and thoughtful podcast. It is the best podcast I’ve had the privilege of listening to. Your caring and approachable nature is so endearing and a joy to listen to. Thank you for for bring us topics that are important for midlife health and well-being as this is the first time I’ve heard so much about menopause. I’m almost 41 and not sure if I am perimenopausal but I have now been equipped with the greatest knowledge to make a more informed choice and may even take HRT. Whereas, I was previously completely against ! So thank you for everything 🙏 I am also happy to hear from someone who promoted meat (grass fed and free range pasture raised) and dairy diary as I’ve always felt this is an important part of our diet but there are so many people against meat and dairy consumption. So thanks for that too xx

I was mistaken

I used to use Liz’s products (then I realised she’d sold the company so I went far more natural with another, smaller one) I always believed her to be an advocate of natural health - now I’m not so sure; I tried to listen to the episode with Gaby Logan and although they’re easy to listen to, it felt like one long brainwash for HRT. I guess that this isn’t the podcast for me but there’s plenty of others to listen to and I’m sure this will be a favourite for many in the social media era. As a society, we are getting caught up in the ‘menopause propaganda’ which leads us to believe that women in middle age are in some way faulty and need fixing by pharmaceutical companies. It’ll be teenage girls next…

Love the show, wanted to suggest a show theme!

Hi, I love the podcast, been listening for a few years now and have gained so much knowledge and improved my health with all the information and tips, not least in terms of getting what I need from hormone replacement. I use quite a few of the products that you’ve recommended in the past including liposomal glutathione, collagen, bimuno immunity, Nuchido time +. I wondered if you’d be able to do a show which perhaps recommends the top 5 supplements or something like that, maybe ones that combine ingredients as it’s just so expensive to keep these things up month on month. Anyway just an idea that might help people to focus on a few things. Thanks so much for all you do!
