Ep103 The Histamine Link with Luka Symons

Ep103 The Histamine Link with Luka Symons

"I don't feel safe" That's the sound of a body who's histamine levels can't be regulated properly.  Yeah, that was a penny drop moment for me too!  I had no idea that fear, stress and anxiety stimulated histamine and prevented it from being eliminated properly.
As we know, at menopause, very often our stress hormones are sky high.
But there's something else that triggers all those sneezy, swelly type symptoms by just looking at a glass of wine.
It's to do with declining progesterone and oestrogen dominance.  All will be revealed.
My guest today Luka Symons, is the co-founder of Histamine Haven, a global community that helps people with an ovarian system deal with chronic health concerns that might be to do with histamine.
    She's funny and so informative.
    In today's episode we discuss:
🤧 The link between histamine and anxiety
🤧 Why histamine is usually high in a body that doesn't feel safe
🤧 The link between gut health and histamine intolerance
🤧 What is histamine intolerance and why it's a misleading phrase
    🤧 Symptoms of histamine intolerance
🤧 Why regulating histamine isn't as easy as taking a DAO supplement
🤧 Foods that are high in histamine
🤧 How histamine could affect our sleep
🤧 The role that histamine plays in our soft tissue
🤧 Why our kitchens and our communities need to be our allies
🤧 The best nutrients to support your regulation of histamine
🤧 Anti histamine tablets  - yes and no
🤧 Why healing from histamine means healing the human
So if you're ready to connect the dots, this episode is for you.

Ep 102 Deep Organisational Change with Nik Davis

Ep 102 Deep Organisational Change with Nik Davis

Hello?  Do you SEE me?  If the menopause has made you feel invisible you are not alone.  The latest stats show that over a million have either quit their jobs or are thinking of doing so because of menopause.
This is a tragic and unnecessary loss of talent.
When organisations fail to address menopause they are basically saying, you are not important to us and that hurts.
    It really hurts.
My guest today Nik Davis used to be a management consultant helping companies with organisational change.  When menopause hit her she decided to turn her hand to writing, assisting people with death and change and sustainability.
I think she's marvellously eccentric and speaks out bravely.
    We talk about...

😌 Having a voice and using it for the greater good.
😌 The consequences of not feeling safe enough to tell your truth.
😌 Is it ok to share during the raw-ness of a process?
😌 How fiction increases empathy and how the lack of it decreases empathy.
😌 How seeing an endocrinologist helped my guest during her menopause.
😌 Why workplaces should pay for their staff with ovarian systems to see an endocrinologist.
😌 Why not all anxiety and depression responds to anti depressants.
😌 Changing what we expect of ourselves during menopause.
     😌 Managing our days differently.
😌 Menopause - how it picks at the scabs and forces you inwards.
😌 Viewing menopause as a journey that is constantly reviewed.
😌 Powerful suggestions for organisational change.

So if you're ready for this wonderfully invigorating conversation and if you're feeling the pull to steer the change in your own organisation, then this episode is for you.

Ep 101 Reclaiming Pleasure with Mangala Holland

Ep 101 Reclaiming Pleasure with Mangala Holland

What does sex and the Chinese language have in common?  Answer:  You can learn them both.
When it comes to pleasure, did you know that many of us have a lid on our capacity to harbour it?
Our pleasure set point can diminish with age, unless we decide to reclaim it, work with it and expand it.
But many of us don't realise that's even an option.
Lucky for you, my guest today, Mangala Holland, reveals all.  She's a female and vulva owner's sexuality coach and she believes that expanding our capacity for pleasure deeply heals the past and is also a rebellious form of activism (my kind of activism 😉).

In today's conversation we talk about:
How might sexual disconnection present itself?
Taking a trauma informed approach to sexuality coaching.
      What happens inside sexuality coaching?
What does 'staying in the body' actually mean?
Why we might push pleasure away sub consciously?
      Dogma free sexuality coaching.
      Knowing what turns you on.
      Different types of arousal.
Pleasure as a form of activism.
      The orgasm gap.
Relearning and reclaiming pleasure even during menopause.
      Cervical orgasms.
So if you're ready to consider re-opening to the idea of pleasure, or you want to able to harbour more of it, this episode is for you.

Ep 100 Divorcing a Narcissist with Diana Jordan

Ep 100 Divorcing a Narcissist with Diana Jordan

Am I going mad?  That's the question on many women's minds who are struggling to leave narcissistic relationships.
Trigger warning - the content in todays podcast might stir up a few emotions so only listen if you're feeling strong and ready to fight the good fight.
My guest today is an ex family solicitor who helps people struggling to leave abusive relationships and litigate in person (that means, attend divorce court without a solicitor).
She says, that when it comes to divorce, women are blamed for EVERYTHING and she believes women would be ill advised to mention the menopause as part of court proceedings especially when children are involved.
My answer to that was "but surely that's because men and lawyers are not educated properly on the menopause?"
"If they knew that low tolerance to stress and mood swings was caused by an oestrogen and progesterone deficiency, might they have more compassion and stop blaming the personality?"
The answer to that is challenging and you'll need to listen to the episode to find out more.
Diana Jordan is a kind and wise soul who is extremely passionate about helping people divorce narcissists.
    Things we talk about:
➡️ Why there are many more litigants in person these days.
➡️ Why it's not that easy to just 'marry well' in the first place.
    ➡️ What is a narcissist.
➡️ Why narcissists are so hard to divorce.
➡️ Best practice if you want to divorce a narcissist.
➡️ How 'contact at all costs' might be harmful to children of a narcissistic parent.
➡️ Why women are not believed.
➡️ How things are changing for the better.
➡️ Pre Nups, Post Nups and short marriages.
➡️ How the new divorce law might affect you if you're trying to divorce a narcissist.
This conversation is for you if you're in a situation where you need this advice; if you know someone that needs this advice or you're curious to learn more about the assault course that is the legal system, narcissists, women and the menopause.

Ep 99 Cyclical Living with Carly Proctor

Ep 99 Cyclical Living with Carly Proctor

Over the years we've come up with many euphemisms to describe it...
    🩸 The painters are round
     🩸 Aunt Flow has arrived
     🩸 It's rag time

Many of these are said lightly and in jest, but the truth is, we find it hard to say the real thing.

     "I'm menstruating".

Silence always perpetuates shame, which in turn perpetuates the problems that women and people with ovaries often face.   Migraines, PMT, digestive issues, histamine issues, painful periods, heavy periods, sore breasts, extreme tiredness...
.... all of this remains unless we can open up about it.
Lucky for us, things are changing thanks to the number of menstrual cycle educators and coaches that are springing up.  That includes my guest today.
Carly Proctor is a Menstrual Cycle Coach, a Nutritional Therapist and (God love her) an ICU nurse in London and I spoke to her about all things cycle related.

     ➡️ Coming off the pill.
➡️ Cycle tracking - how to do it.
➡️ The seasons of the cycle.
➡️ Having a cycle and living in a man's world.
➡️ What we can learn from our PMT.
➡️ What are our hormones actually doing in our cycle.
➡️ Why ovulation isn't always amazing for some people.
➡️ How cycle tracking actually helps our periods.

So if you're ready to gain lots of menstrual cycle awareness with the potential of improving your menstrual experience each month, then this episode is for you.

Ep 98 How to Have More Energy

Ep 98 How to Have More Energy

I was hanging by a thread, like a piece of over rip fruit about to fall from the tree and go splat on the floor.  Heavy and lethargic.  No energy to lift a finger let alone think about what to cook for dinner.
Energy is a precious resource, but the good news is, it's renewable, unlike time.  Once time is gone, it's gone, you can't get it back but energy can be renewed.  All we have to do is plug back in.
    But how?
This episode of The Menopause Mindset Podcast is a demonstration of how that is possible.... literally.
The entire episode was improvised from start to finish, not because I was lazy and didn't want to write any notes, but because I've been able to generate so much energy over the last couple of days, my mind was clear and my heart was full.
Since a friend pulled me up on my waining energy levels, I've been making a concerted effort to problem solve this issue and I'm delighted to bring you my musings.
    In this episode we discuss:
➡️ Why seeking motivation will have you barking up the wrong tree.
➡️ Why this one thing is the elixir of life.
➡️ Why we don't just get energy from our sleep.

So if you're ready to plug back in to the circuitry of life, then this episode is for you.

Love this podcast

I really enjoy listening to this podcast. It’s a chance to hear how other women are feeling and thinking about this time of life, which helps it to feel like something I can understand.

You don’t sound confident

The reading of someone else’s quotes or articles and repeating yourself makes me uncomfortable. It’s boring I’m afraid

Magical menopause

Thank you Sally for an educational and inspirational podcast about an interesting subject. This is not just informative to women but it gives an inset to their partner thus enabling us to have a more knowledgeable understanding of the menopause. Again thank you
