Shallow reporting. Just chatting - no reporting and you have already heard on other outlets . The “let us explain” attitude is patronising and lazy. These guys are just middlemen adding no value to reporting US politics .Pointless listen when there are so many good US podcasts from people who actually know something on this topic. Try Ezra Klein Matter of Opinion Undercurrents Pod Save America Pivot and so on.

Maitlis and Sopel have certainly left any vestige of balanced reporting at the doors of the BBC. This podcast simply extols the virtues of Harris / Biden and refuses to engage with any of the reasons why reasonable Americans (you’d think 50% of the vote might contain some of these) might vote for Trump. They don’t understand Trump and his appeal to some and don’t seem to care. For example Maitlis confidently asserts for months that Trump will definitely pick a female VP (wrong as usual).

What’s the point of this podcast? The team behind it produces another pod, with more content about the USA than they can be bothered to put into this one. There they cast about the USA daily, here they can only manage content once a week.

I lived in America for 5 years (many years ago) and I wish I could have listened to this podcast because it’s real news and not misinformation.

This podcast is basically little more than a sickeningly sycophantic verbal back rub for Kamala Harris, so I suppose I shouldn’t have been shocked to hear two (checks notes) “journalists” commending Harris for refusing to answer questions in what was an already queasily softball interview. I’m no fan of Trump but I believe that journalists should at least quote him accurately and the mocking, sneering tone they adopt when speaking about him actually makes me root for the guy just so that the smug smirks will be wiped off the face of these presenters. Finally, the forced banter and sophomoric swearing is incredibly cringe.
