An insightful window into the development of a fascinating new show. The lore of Watchmen is so meticulous and revered, an adaptation and sequel of sorts seems like an impossible ask. Lindelof clearly has such respect for the material and his frank discussions with Craig Mazin about the ideas he and the exceptionally talented writing and production teams wanted to incorporate are a worthwhile accompaniment to a series that practically demands viewers analyse every panel. The experience is only slightly marred by Mazin doing much of the talking, recapping episodes at great length and pushing his own interpretation of the material without stopping long enough to let Lindelof properly comment on the intention. If this is to be the model for new HBO shows and their sister podcasts, let’s hope future series put more emphasis on the creators and less on the interviewers themselves.
