Just wanted to say how pleased I was to hear your SUPERB discussion on the role of social media/traditional media/critical thinking skills in this week’s podcast. All three of you hit the nail on the head. I often (pre-pandemic) used to take a stroll to Speaker’s Corner (Hyde Park, London) and amuse myself at the range of conflicting and at times ludicrous opinions being slung at the spontaneous audiences that group and gather there - it’s the Internet in microcosm. How can any hard-working parent or the developing intellect of a child ever expect to filter through the garbage for the myriad of facts? If our representative democracy is also prone to campaign finance and influence of lobbyists, how can we discern and elect without trust in a select bunch of fact-based mediums that do our filtering for us? THIS is the discussion that needs to be had. You have restored my faith/hope in (and admiration for) the US - because right now, as projected by the world’s media - your country is a farce.
