#007 Defected Records - The virtual rave that connected the world

#007 Defected Records - The virtual rave that connected the world

As part of a series of interviews exploring some of the best lockdown pivot examples, we are dissecting the “virtual rave” that connected the world. It was a moment in time where there was mass fear, uncertainty and we were all being told to STAY AT HOME to slow down the spread of COVID 19 virus.
On March 20th, 2020, Defected Records brought house music directly into houses around the world by hosting a 12 hour Virtual Music Festival. Streaming DJ sets live from an empty The Ministry of Sound nightclub in London across twitter, Facebook and youtube reaching 10m people. Music was just what the world needed on the first Friday night when the world had really changed. People were dancing in their living rooms partying together with their friends via apps and the internet.
In this Slick Pivot Session, Liz Ward is joined by James Kirkham, Chief Business Officer from Defected Records, who shares an exclusive inside track on this seminal moment in dance music culture. Just how did the Defected Team pivot their business to deliver 12 hours of positivity to millions in just 5 days?
