How much money will I need?

What is a good salary in Doha? London? Jakarta? We’ve all seen the questions based on how much money you need to make to survive, today we have a new question. What’s been the biggest cost you didn’t foresee when you moved? What did you forget to factor in?

We also talk about the grieving expat. Going through grief when no-one understands the enormity of your loss. How do we cope with losing expat friends when we’ve moved on to a new location?

    The Trailing Spouse is Dead

    The Trailing Spouse is Dead

The Trailing Spouse is dead – this week on the podcast we talk about why the “Accompanying Spouse” has arrived. I mean the Accompanying Spouse was always a better term wasn’t it? We all walk side by side don’t we? Sidenote – the term Trailing Spouse will no longer be used in the Two Fat Expats Facebook Group with Accompanying Spouse being the preferred term.

We’re also talking Posh and Becks and how no matter how much money you have or how many football teams you own you’re still going to lay awake at night thinking of schools, finding a hairdresser, finding new friends and feeling like a fish out of water.

We also discuss dealing with strong opinions on your host country from people who’ve never lived there. Has social media made it worse?

My favourite podcast

It is so good to have Kirsty and Nikki back regularly. These two awesome women have created a podcast that is interesting, funny, witty, uncomplicated and super relevant to expats all over the world. Having listened to the podcasts for many years now I look forward to the next one every time. I love the honesty and the frank discussions about the topics that I can relate to as a fellow expat. In my head Kirsty and Nikki are friends of mine 😆…because we are sharing the experience of expat life together.

A great range of ex-pat topics discussed with empathy, curiosity and humour

As a somewhat reluctant ex-pat living in San Jose CA, this podcast has reminded me that it’s not about where you live, but how you live. After the current corona virus craziness has passed you have inspired me to get back out there and try meeting some new ex-pat friends. I discovered Two Fat Expats only recently so had a bit of catching up to do and having set myself a target of walking 10k per day during lockdown, so far the dulcet tones of Kirsty, Nikki and Sarah have got me through about 200km! Thank you ladies! I have loved joining you on your chats each day. Keep up the great work 😃
