Having been reminded of my annual subscription for the podcast I was reflecting on what excellent value for money this show really is. If you want information on armour penetration at specific ranges and slopes of armour, or the ground pressure of AFVs then go somewhere else! This podcast brings alive those were involved in this human tragedy, from those who commissioned violence and hatred as tools of statecraft, to the innocent victims of these actions. The series on Auschwitz was especially poignant on this point, and I must congratulate both Al and James for having read the most harrowing and troubling material in order that the listener can be better informed about one of the worlds, if not the greatest, crimes against humanity. Without this podcast I would never have learnt about Hedley Verity, Dudley Clark or the interaction between Kaltenbrunner and Wolff. James’s series on Italy even prompted me to pursuade my 84 years old Italian father to take me on a trip to see the Volturno, much to his bemusement! At a time of uncertainty and jeopardy in the world, this podcast can serve to bring into focus the cost of failing to heed the lessons of history, and the lives that can be wrecked in doing so. Well done Al and James on such an excellent production. Definitely worth 40 quid!

Sensational! I’ve been a WW2 nerd as long as I can remember and this has absolutely reignited my passion for the subject. Very late to the party as I only discovered it a few weeks ago but cont stop listening.

The style of presentation is superb, great quality information delivered in an informal manner, love it. The level of detail and analysis is outstanding.

Had to turn it off. Really annoying and doesn’t ’t add anything to the story.

I have been listening from the start and found every episode interesting, informative and fun, but then I am one of the afflicted. Please don't stop!

The level of detail is beyond reproach; so much to learn from this highly interesting subject. However, after listening to a LOT of pods, James is starting to grate-constantly saying “kind of” and “all the rest of it” is really off-putting! And constantly using Amaaaaazing, yeah yeah yeah, talking over each other, Al’s constant stuttering etc etc. I’ll soldier on (pun intended) and see if I can tune it out…..

Great show and content but please improve the highly distracting volume levels between the two hosts. Often one is almost mumbling (James) then the other (normally Al) comes in with a great, booming voice. Constantly having to adjust the the volume, the current series about Auschwitz is almost unlistenable which is such a shame.
